European football used to be fun and I guess it still is if you are winning. Distorted finances in the game echo society in general. So much of the money flow has gone to the few at the top that lucky clubs below that level line up (in the CL groups) like whores to be fcuked, but well paid. I increasingly struggle to maintain interest. Favourable August headlines are now about earning XXmillion pounds for CL qualification. I preferred it when it was more about the football. An article on why Davie Cooper playing tennis throughout the summer had helped him hit the ground running in the new season.4 points

So Sakala is worth 5m euros on transfermarkt which is about 4.3m pounds.... Would you sell for that to try and get better in the immediate and long term? To be honest I would trust the manager and recruitment team to get it right but right now we've got a player who's guaranteed Goals and Assists, is effective in 3 forward positions and is never injured. Tough one. I think if we sold Sakala for 4.3 and got Luis Palma for what he's valued at which is broadly the same, fans would be chuffed. Hypothetically. This would be the trading model working aswell, player comes in at a young age and for value (bosman) contributes positively for the team and gets sold for profit. I'd still try and get 5m+ though. If he stays I'd be just as happy.3 points

The Sound of Silence. Yesterday evening at 17.000hrs, Glasgow Royal Infirmary Accident and Emergency announced a Major Incident Alert. A bus shelter at Trongate, Glasgow had collapsed because a couple of dozen Yahoos were atop celebrating their team's Championship victory. Ten of those were taken by Ambulance for treatment at the A and E. Just like last year, Trongate had been closed and, surrounding streets were covered in broken glass, urine and, vomit. Businesses were closed and those living in the Merchant City were advised by Police Scotland to remain in their homes. There will be a considerable cost and if the Policy Advisor to Susan Aitken, Gerry Braiden has sobered up, he will be along to tell us the cost to the Glasgow city community charge payer? Gerry will have fully consulted the Chairs of the Barrowlands, Calton, and, Merchant City Residents Association. BBC Scotland's 'The Sunday Show' hosted by Martin Geissler and Fiona Stalker will spend the first 30 minutes of the show relating the angst of Glasgow's emergency and volunteer services wading through the flowing blood and broken glass. I tuned into PQ TV at 10 am and Martin spent twenty minutes interviewing the Green Party Minister, Lorna Slater. Since the content of the head to head was her Deposit Return Scheme and the city centre was covered in broken glass, you would expect Martin to make the appropriate connection? No, no and thrice no; BBC Scotland did NOT mention the city centre mayhem. The show is broadcast live from the PQ atrium and, usually there are a dozen or so souls wandering around in the background, NOT this morning. I can only imagine PQ CSC were in recovery? How things have changed? Two years past, Rangers won their 55th Championship, their first title in a decade. An element of the Rangers support walked into the city centre across the Squinty Bridge and we were given minute by minute updates on the trials of Police Scotland in their attempts to contain the celebrations. The Sunday Show was hosted by Gary Robertson. The Clootie City Author spent twenty minutes venting his anger at the plethora of Union flags present in George Square. A voluntary medic told of being constantly targeted by marauding Rangers supporters as he attempted to sow others back together. Off the Ball began with a primed RAB Cosgrove after, "very good friend of the show", Gerry Braiden had briefed him. In a minute long rant about mayhem and union flags (again), he culminated with, "Rangers supporters were simply a disgrace". Today's Off the Ball has begun with RAB wanting to talk about Ross County and Killie and, the ensuing play-off game against Partick Thistle. RAB is the voice of new, modern Scotland - Hello darkness my old friend.3 points

I'm watching Carlisle Utd vs Stockport County just now and have been to Brunton Park a couple of times recently - Carlisle's goalkeeper, Tomas Holy (Czech), makes a lot of good saves. And I say that as someone who has an inherent distaste for 'holy goalies'.2 points

Why are we holding on to an injured Steven Davis whose contract ends in June? He’s 38.5 years now, even with a full recovery it’s very unlikely he would get much game time especially as we are signing more players. Is he destined for a coaching job with us? What happens next month, do we extend his contract?1 point

Davis should either be employed in some other capacity or he should be off the payroll as soon as his current contract ends.1 point

Isn't it about time Everton was removed from its annual dance with death and just went somewhere out of the way for a year or two to figure itself out? I don't pay much attention to the EPL but it seems to me Everton is one of those clubs whose perennial role is to achieve nothing and make no improvement.1 point

Good post Rab. I get as excited as anyone else at some new signings, but I'm genuinely looking forward to Beales pre-season influence, and the resultant football, even more than new players. Bring it on.1 point

Returning to the original post(St Boo 0 Rangers 3) it was good to see us finishing the season strongly. 5 wins out of 5 post split were denied by a late, late goal by hertz last Wednesday in time added on upon time added on(4th official showed 3 mins & they scored in the 94th) Since the turn of the year there have been some encouraging signs…… Both the Cantwell & Raskin signings have been good so far. McCrorie has shown he might be able to replace McGregor(if he can stop flapping at crosses) Souttar has been exceptional since coming into the side. So much so maybe Goldson might start to get worried if we sign a left sided CB to replace Davies who may head back south if the rumours I’ve heard are true. The only concern about Souttar is whether he can play 50 odd games per season. Sakala seems to have found a bit of goal scoring form. RidvannYilmaz looks comfortable at LB although if Galatasaray make a decent offer(as rumoured) he might go MB has made a good impact by steadying a rudderless ship. We ended up with 92 league pts which in most normal leagues ( other than the SPFL) we would’ve been champions. However MB does need more OF wins. Had we got Cantwell & Raskin signed earlier in January they might have started the LC final. Maybe that’s something our ex-DoF could tell us about. A few good signings over the summer & we’ll be better prepared for the new season than we’ve been for the past 2. And(hopefully) we won’t need to make it 3IAR changing the manager 3 or 4 months into the new season. 🤓1 point

I don't understand why you keep coming up with pointless analogies. I already know that you think like a loser. This has zero relevance. Any such benefit is greater in the Champions league.1 point

CL first always for me. We got pumped this/last season but we're learning on that stage. There's no more prestige than being a regular in the UCL, look at how 4th has become a trophy down south. Plus with the revamp reaching the last 16 looks a bit more doable after next season. We're Rangers, original members of the first iteration of the UCL, people forget that but WE shouldn't.1 point
