  1. The problem we have is we don't really play with a poacher in our side and haven't done so in a long time. Morelos, Roofe and Sakala can all score goals but all were expected to work outside the box to link the play and this will be true for any new signing. Even Colak - arguably a more recognised penalty box type goal-scorer - was having to adapt his game before he got injured. Further back, Jelavic, Miller and Prso also had to link the play with only Boyd the kind of poacher some fans think we need. Worth noting neither of those players were hardly prolific before they signed but it was their overall quality that seen them arrive and they did score goals. In that sense, it's not a surprise to see any linked players perhaps not have the out and out goal-scorer label we'd like to see. That's not to say we won't sign one as well as a Lammers and/or a Dessers but it's probably unlikely. By way of comparison, Celtic do use more of a poacher in their team and there's no doubt Kyogo has been a fine signing. Would he fit into our style of play? Can we afford a luxury number 9 (both financially and tactically)? Or do you spread your bet into 2-3 players who can all contribute? I don't have the answer unfortunately but I do know signing the correct forward players and turning our possession/chance stats into more goals will be a key part of any success coming our way next season. I'm sure the manager is just as aware...

  2. No they didn't sell to anyone but the constant dilution has weakened them. The rest of their proxies are the likes of Blue Pitch Holdings etc, these are the shares that were prevented from voting, can't remember if the order actually covered the Easdales own holdings (I think not but stand to be vorrected). The guy who was rumoured to be behind BPH ????? Abela was at the centre of a £300m fraud, just wonder if the lifting of the order is an attempt by an admistrator or liquidator to recover any funds.

  3. Yeah, I don't do that either. I don't agree or disagree. They're just an irrelevance to me. I'm going into the preseason hoping all of our signings will be wonderful, and I'm excited because we'll have new players and I have very little or no opinion on them until I actually see them play. I remember when we signed Herrera and Alfie. In the first friendly at Ibrox, Herrera played firs half and Morelos the second and it was clear that Alfie was by far the better player. I didn't know anything about either beforehand. It's not to say that I'm denigrating the use of statistics. I've just personally got no interest in them and it's disappointing to see many (not you) using them and writing off Lammers before they understand how we're going to use him. or how he's going to perform in a Rangers jersey.

  4. It would be hilarious and brilliant if Lammers was mustard for us off the bat. I'm going to back the lad to the hilt for the flack he's had without even kicking a ball for us.

  5. A 'pressing' forward? Surely a player more suited to West Ham.....come on you Irons?

  6. I'm old and don't always follow some of this chat, but are we saying he's a 6'3" dribbler who doesn't score many goals? I suppose Aribo could have been described similarly.

  7. I remember we signed a certain Dane who had struggled in Italian Football, and he turned out not too bad.

  8. I've never seen Lammers play so I don't know if he is any good. I've been calculating x-C and x-D. Although the numbers are not high, just now, I can tell you that they are increasing.

  9. IIRC the 20m shares they held proxy over at the time included Ashley's holding which has long been sold. We could well do without such irritants getting their egos fluffed.

  10. Does anybody remember Wim Jansen, a fhilth manager for a season? He bought, for a Haagen Dazs, a Swedish player from Lucsasfilm Central Casting, whom no one had heard of, who did not start regularly for Feyenoord, and whose record was less than earth shattering. I often wonder what happened to that player.

  11. Sampdoria scored 24 goals in 38 games this season by the way, they couldn't hit a cows arse.. its about 2 in 3 unless I'm wrong. Luis Suarez after shafting the Ghanaians couldn't turn around that record even if he tried.

  12. Agreed, I'd much prefer to trust in Beale's judgement than try to prejudge a player based on some statistics that may or not be relevant, depending on how we're set up. #Old school loyal

  13. I was reading a review on a recent book on him just last week, oh for the days when Fife coalfields produced international players with regularity.

  14. I would need to find the matches and count every single metric myself. There's no way I'd be so stupid as to spend all that time just to prove a silly point on a Rangers foru--

  15. King stated that he is '100 per cent behind' Bennett and Bisgrove and said: “I have no idea whatsoever if the so-called Easdale shares have been released by a Court order. "I was the one who had them blocked and cannot conceive of a good reason why this could be overturned by a Court. "What I can say, emphatically, is that I have had no discussions with the Easdales for many years and they have made no attempt to contact me. They know that I would never enter into an alliance with them." https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/football/23587686.dave-king-responds-easdale-talks-claims-backs-rangers-board/?ref=twtrec

  16. I'm genuinely disturbed at the apparent death of blind optimism and ignorant conjecture, both strangled by a cocophany of metrics and caveated analyses.

  17. Romano with the update, interested to watch him play for us if everything goes through.

  18. That was a game-changer. If they hadn't brought him in (or we had signed him) we could have got 20 in a row.

  19. I had a wee look at Ryan Kent - unfortunately FBref doesn't have stats from Scottish football, only our Europa League and CL matches. Lol.

  20. I dunno, as much as YT is easy to make someone look good, I think it's easier to see if they can actually perform. I recall watching City in a CL game this season, Grealish didn't have much of a game, couldn't beat the full back, and so resorted to rolling the ball back to the area maybe 25 yards out, which resulted in DeBruyne having a few shots. This then translated to Grealish creating the most chances in the game, which he didn't really. Whilst I appreciate he held onto the ball, didn't run into a blind alley, I don't see that a dig from outside the box is a chance, even if it is KdB, but he stats will say different.

  21. I've just read 4 pages of utter cock about statistics that no one can agree on? The close season can be unbearable at times.

  22. An overhead kick from outside the box in the 2nd minute of the season opener away to Aberdeen 😉

  23. Yep, but I understand he has had a bad knee injury since then (sound familiar?) and after his recovery his stats are woeful. I haven't seen him, I just hope Beale isn't wooed by the player he was rather than the player he is.

  25. Or someone like Morelos who creates chances himself and gets a bucket load from others, but can't take them. It'll all be in the raw data.

  26. You can only score from the chances that are given. Fair enough. Is a forward player supposed to be able create his own chances (Laudrup) or just bang in goals from chances created by others (Flo)? What if a player doesn’t get many chances because he can’t read the play or is too slow to move? Nonetheless, he scores two goals in a season from two chances. What a striker! 100% conversion rate.

  27. Nikica Jelavić - Wikipedia His stats were a bit dugmeat before we spent our entire transfer budget on him and it worked out all right. Sometimes it can.

  28. Yeh, and for the avoidance of doubt (again), I’m not writing him off. I like technical players, and I like his technique on the ball. I'm hoping our trust in Beale is well placed. We could certainly do with more dribblers in the team. Kent has been our go-to for about 5 years and his dribbling success always hovered around 40%.

  29. 4 goals and 2 assists over 3 seasons is underwhelming for a forward, yes.

  30. At the end of October we will still be looking at stats. It's just going to be a retrospective on x-C (expected complaints) and x-D (expected denial - a personal favourite).
