Jermain Defoe is in talks with Rangers boss Steven Gerrard about making his Ibrox stay a permanent one next season. The striker, who turns 37 on Monday, is currently on loan from Premier League outfit Bournemouth. His contract at the Vitality Stadium expires next summer – and Defoe wants to extend his time in Glasgow. He’s already bagged nine goals from Gers this term, despite playing second fiddle to Alfredo Morelos. And Defoe admits discussions have taken place with Gerrard about signing on a Bosman next term. He said: “I’ve spoken to the manager and he knows how much I’ve enjoyed my time here. “I haven’t been here that long but the appreciation you get from the fans is something special. “You don’t always get that. I sat down and had a relaxed chat with the gaffer. “For me, it’s not just about being happy on the pitch but off it as well. “The younger players at Rangers are always 
asking me questions and it’s nice to help them, it’s nice to be able to give 
something back. “The manager knows I love it here and I know he wants me here.” Even at 37, Defoe insists he still feels sharp and capable of playing on for another few years yet – even if next season will be his 21st in senior football. How many of us truly believed this would be the season we might break the Celtic title stranglehold? I thought it was a possibility but then I always think that at the outset. Celtic started the season bookies favourites by a long way and still are bookies favourites but not by a long way anymore. I think they started the season around 1/8 while we were out around 5/1 or so but currently that stands at Celtic 8/11 with Rangers at 11/8 followed by Aberdeen at 250/1. Betting without Celtic Rangers 0/1 which I don't even know what that means Aberdeen 22/1 We currently have Jack, Aribo, and Kent all out injured but probably not long term with long term injury victim Murphy just coming back into the picture. This team the yahoo blip aside is more often than not looking formidable at home while grinding out wins away. And while it might be said the average SPL opposition isn't so impressive even Feyenoord looked out of their depth during an impressive first half Rangers performance at Ibrox where Feyenoord could easily have went in 3 or 4 down at halftime. We also have what we thought would be 'fringe' players like Greg Stewart beginning to turn in impressive performances even before our injured first picks return. While we were all unimpressed by the narrow win league cup win over Livi on their plastic today Celtic went there and came away with nothing which puts a little perspective on that result. I get the feeling this team still hasn't even peaked with the possibility that they will become even more impressive over the weeks and months ahead. Looking all over the pitch the strength in depth was illustrated once again with a start for Edmundson who really looks like a player who can scale the heights. We're more than well covered in the centre of defence while the riches in midfield options is almost embarrassing and that's even before mentioning the top class goalie standing behind them. And all that with what appears to be the two best strikers in Scotland. Jermain Defoe currently scoring a league goal every 39 minutes and two 5-0 league wins on the trot. If this were the yahoos all the talk would be about how awesome and unbeatable they are. It's all extremely promising provided we can maintain consistency which has been an issue over the past few years but this time I just don't see that being the issue it has been in recent seasons. With eight games gone we stand 2 points clear at the top with a GD 6 ahead of the nearest contender. In fact the only other contender. Not too shabby for an under 18's coach. Is it Graeme Spiers?

The Rangers Charity Foundation is inviting fans to help our local foodbank tackle poverty and hunger in south west Glasgow, by bringing groceries to Rangers’ next home match on Sunday 6th October against Hamilton at Ibrox. This year, the Foundation will be assisting Glasgow South West Foodbank, which aims to combat poverty and hunger by providing nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people. The Foundation has organised a food collection point to take place in the Fan Zone, where supporters will be able to drop non-perishable items off from 12pm until kick-off at 3pm. The South West Foodbank welcomes all kinds of non-perishable food items, but would be particularly pleased to receive donations of tinned meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, long-life milk, diluting juice, toilet rolls and sanitary products, as well as tea and coffee. Since the 1st April 2019, the Foodbank has shared over 6,200 food parcels with people in need in the south west of Glasgow. This season, the Foundation has also donated £10,000 to the Glasgow South West Foodbank, which will support both staffing and food costs. Foodbank Treasurer, Ian McGregor, said: "It can be a scary job being a foodbank treasurer as funding can be precarious for us, so I am relieved and we are all very grateful for the generous donation of £10,000 coming from the Rangers Charity Foundation. “This will enable us to extend the horizon for being able to pay our wonderful and totally indispensable sole employee, Claire, as well as being able to buy food, to top up any phenomenal donations we receive on Sunday from Rangers fans. Thank you!" Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, added: “The Foundation is delighted to be able to facilitate another foodbank collection at Ibrox, supporting people who live right at the heart of our community. “Over the last four seasons, Rangers fans have generously donated over 6.3 tonnes via our collections and we hope that this year, which is being held one day before the start of ‘Challenge Poverty Week’, will be the biggest yet! “We’re also proud to have donated £10,000 to the Foodbank and we hope that this will make a positive and lasting difference.” If you would like to help, but are not attending the game, the Foundation will accept food donations to its offices at Argyle House, Ibrox Stadium, during office hours between now and 5pm on Friday 4th October. Defoe now on 9 league goals with the nearest competition being Christie of Celtic on 6. And a further stat which has been mentioned before is his frequency of scoring. Last week it was 44 minutes per goal now it's 39 minutes per goal. Jermain Defoe 39 minutes per goal 353 minutes played The closest in the league to his 39 minutes is actually Alfie on 5 goals and 79 minutes per goal having played 40 minutes more. Alfredo Morelos 79 minutes per goal 393 minutes played. Christie has 6 goals at 95 minutes per goal having played 569 minutes. We have two free scoring strikers both of whom have played far fewer minutes than any of the opposition goal scoring competition.

I f*ckin' love Edmundson. So composed on the ball, passes well, reads the game well, strong in the air and you're not out-muscling him.

Realistically, if he keeps on scoring and performing for Colombia too, teams will become aware and there will be teams who can match our asking fees. Whether he wants to go / there is up to him. For us, it remains a win-win situation. As long as he scores goals and brings us nearer to a/the title and possibly a CL group slot, we are fine. If someone happens by with 20+m, fine. Obviously, he would be hard to replace, but it is a guessing game whether we can. The propability that some hammer-thrower breaks his leg in a week or 3 months is equally unpredictable. For now, I am content that we have him and will be happy as long as it lasts. The rest is out of my/our hand/s anyways.

Agree @Rousseau, we have an absolute star in the making with Edmundson. It wouldn't surprise me if he became a world star. He's got every attribute you could ever need and want in a centreback. His pace is outstanding, and his strength ..... well it's actually just embarrassing when you see him ease other large men off the ball. I'm loving watching him. He's got loads to learn but I just feel we've got the management team to make him the star he can be.

I did say in my earlier post that I'm NOT saying this based on last night's performance, but rather because he's been poor in many games this season. Also, I did say it depends on what the reason is. I think he's looking full of confidence, but not full of concentration which is why I've said this about him in particular.
