  1. IMO Borna gets far too much unjustified abuse. I urge fans to watch when he gets the ball how little movement there is upfront and in midfield with no one willing to come short thus why he keeps needing to turn back. That did change on Saturday though as the teams movement in general was way better.

  2. Exactly mate - Borna gets far too much stick. No surprise that he had a good game in a match where Kent actually looked like he was working harder.

  3. I believe by far our greatest failing is the inability to fully function when things go against us - when the opposition is strong, when we can't get a breakthrough, when we don't meet the fans' expectation. When we get the breaks and things go our way we are capable of high tempo play and moving the ball quickly but when things go against us our play becomes torpid and ineffective. Most of all, we seem largely incapable of moving from the latter to the former during games .... a characteristic that suggests too few leaders and way too many followers. Tellingly, I almost never see our captain lifting his team.

  5. Sakala. The Man from Zambia's best game for the Gers yet.

  6. Yes, I think that's right. Or perhaps Sands should be the deep midfielder anyway. Lundstram just seems to contribute more when allowed to move further forward.

  7. Bugger the SNP. They’d have us all gagged and locked in cages if they could. I’d rather have freedom to say what we want, when we want, how we want - even if it occasionally offends.

  9. *so long as the opposition are as poor as Aberdeen

  10. Liverpool supporters have been like this for years. They seem to have cast themselves as the true victims of Heysel. Remind me of the followers of another team of similar background. Can’t speak about Evertonians in the present day but my brother married into an RC Evertonian family when Goodison was still the School of Soccer Science. Better people you couldn’t find. Their heritage was Lancashire rather than immigrant which might explain different attitudes.

  11. Having watched some highlights from yesterday, I am wondering why the Aberdeen goal was allowed to stand? Lopes clearly dives to try and get a penalty, but ref waves play on and Aberdeen score. Game should have been stopped, Lopes booked and Rangers awarded a free-kick. Highlights also showed how good our forward play was, especially at the goals. Also, what a tackle from King on Lopes (on halfway line) when he tried to breakaway.

  12. I somehow managed not to know Davie Robb had died. Not the silkiest player but he knew where the goal was and did his best to get there no matter who was in the way.

  13. For a couple of years back in the early 90's I worked alongside Davie Robb who played for Aberdeen in the 60's and 70's. He died this summer aged 74. Davie was an excellent guy, rough as anything but a kinder heart you couldn't find. He struck me as a typical footballer who battled alcohol for years after hanging up his boots and suffered for it but he was 100 times the man the Thumb will ever be so it wouldn't surprise me if you're right.

  14. It's not hard to predict where this loser will be in ten years' time. On the dole, propping up some backstreet bar, looking at least 60.

  15. What to lol about? It was't a go at Borna, just my impression from what I saw of Ridvan so far, with us and before.

  16. I think it's best not to get too excited about income. I'll be interested to see our expenditure side and especially whether any provisions have been set aside to cover particular costs.

  17. Presumably the £80 million plus doesnt include the sales of Aribo and Bassey given they were July sales.

  18. Good news. I'm not sure if football clubs are like other commercial entities but if you were thinking about selling the club, this might well be maximum valuation.

  19. How do you know that isnt at the request of the manager ? He scored a screamer in a pre-season friendly doing exactly that - so it is surprising that he wouldnt want to do it more and/or the manager wouldnt want him to do it. As I say to my kid often.... even if you think the coach has got things wrong, your job is to carry out his instructions - if the shit hits the fan that is on him. Your job is to do as the coach requests of you.

  20. Yet he is top for assists because he stays out there and crosses superbly.

  21. I take your point but Borna's classic game is hug the touchline, receive the ball, take four strides forward, stop, turn around, pass the ball backwards, ad fucking nauseam. He looks for one pass - down the wing - never comes inside, never leaves the touchline, never tries a different approach. He drives me insane watching his chickenshit performances most days. He's another of our players who suck the tempo out of games and seems too terrified of being criticised to ever express himself. Now and then he shows confidence and positivity but far too seldom to see him as anything other than a selection of last resort.

  22. If it's even handedness you're after I suggest you need to try a different shop because they stopped serving that in this shithole a long time ago. It's best not to hanker after something you already know doesn't exist and never will unless we find ourselves under very different management.

  23. The UK joined the Common Market(EU) in 1973 and, there was tremendous effort put in to ensure all communities twinned with their continental equivalence. Glasgow proposed to twin with both Turin and Liverpool. All three cities had been centres of heavy industry but, were in various stages of deindustrialisation. Further, Glasgow were west facing Atlantic ports; both built on the basis of tobacco, molasses and, slavery. I began at strathclyde Uni' in 1974 and remember the Science faculties were asked to supply evidence of Glasgow - Liverpool cooperation in marine engineering, marine architecture and, in the evolution of tea clippers. I was not, am not a Glaswegian; however, I thought the links were fairly obvious. The Liverpudlian reaction was unanimously quelle horreur. The city council did not entertain the idea, MPs and Columnists took to newspapers to make unfavourable comparisons and, the more famous Liverpudlians all chorused, "no comment". The invitation was turned down. Liverpool was/is unique, it stands alone. Twenty years later, Liverpool accepted invitations for twinning with Dublin and Odessa. Liverpool is the home of Knotty Ash and the Diddymen, it should be treated so.

  26. lol, he was on the pitch for 8 minutes. Borna gets some amount of abuse, seems to be the new whipping boy (not from you specifically, but the support in general) yet he actually played really well on Saturday and, indeed, created our 3rd to make the game safe.

  28. Many candidates but for consistent contribution throughout it had to be SANDS for me. He's finally reaching the stage where he genuinely feels he belongs in that team.

  30. Tillman and Ridvan showed some spark and intelligence that we last saw with Hagi and Lowry, and to an extent Lawrence too. Having these on the field with Colak, Roofe and Sakala might well be a sight to behold. Let's hope we have most of them back after the WC break.

  33. Didn't Gio say replacing Davies was more of a precaution? We'll see on Tuesday I suppose. Yilmaz look good for the short time he was on the pitch, but I thought Borna played well when he replaced Yilmaz.

  35. After today's stupendous display why not go along to Ibrox on Tuesday to watch Rangers rout Ajax, ah it's sold out you say! We have a few spares in the Govan Rear section 5 level with the centre circle, can be configured to suit as adult, concessions or juveniles and can seat multiples together or just singles. All face value.

  36. Definitely. That's the point, though. We're not in a position to temp managers from the top 5 (and more) leagues. Ideally, we should be looking at those doing well in the smaller leagues. (Less of a jump than SG from Liverpool U18s... ) He's outgrown Norway, and done well in Europe. And, crucially, can implement a good style of play.

  37. For me, Knutsen is the obvious candidate. However, that's just as an fan on the outside. I'd expect Wilson to have a shortlist of potential options.
