  1. They don't even play U23's anymore - it is U21's (not a dig at you dB, more that if he is in their U23's he isnt playing much) - I went to see Chelsea U21's against Crystal Palace U21's last month.... if Beale is looking for ANY player from that Chelsea team he should be looking at Charlie Webster, central midfielder who is very tidy on the ball (never going to get him, has had a couple of games for 1st team and better teams will be looking at him) - a great option, IMHO, would be Jadan Raymond of Crystal Palace - plays the LM (Kent) role and is very tidy on the ball too - those two were stand-outs that night.

  2. I've been dismissive of the van Veen stuff but remember Andreas Velicka helped us win a title with a handful of games and goals. I always bang on when people complain about lack of youth players coming through that Mo Ross and Bob Malcolm have a fair few winners medals despite not being regarded as youth system 'successes'. Sometimes its about getting a balance right rather than just getting a load of players who as individuals stand out with certain criteria.

  3. I think with the level of squad turnover we are expecting this summer, its likely that some of our signings will be in the "horses for courses" bracket. Hopefully just a small proportion, with minimal risk in terms of fees/wages.

  4. The quicker we get a DoF the better. MB seems to have too much power, which I think will be a huge mistake.

  5. Mate, that Chelsea v Palace U21 game I went to.... Palace had a CM who was about 6'5 and built like an absolute tank..... terrible player though... yet also has played in their 1st team. Speaking of that game - Omari Hutchinson, who hit the news for leaving Arsenal for Chelsea... is on 14k a week apparently... was dreadful. Only in the game when they gave him the ball, poor decision-making - quick feet admittedly - but for all the hype I was very unimpressed

  6. Sign him. First team material soon enough. Plenty of energy and knows what to do with a football. Not a big bloke but doesn’t get pushed around. He might not make it in which case sell him to Hearts or Aberdeen or better still, OPR or similar.

  7. Crikey, Joe Garner was on 18k a week!. We've wasted some cash on rubbish over the years...

  8. Sounds like the kind of guy we would be looking at for our third choice striker.

  9. Pig's Bladder on a Stick you say? I had that at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir, French Chefs love a bit of offal. The stick could have done with more garlic.

  10. Right before I head off to Chester hopefully for a good days racing who’s the latest mouthwatering name we’ve been linked with I see Messi could be moving on if we could afford the eight million a week wages that the Arabs have offered him 🐎 🐎 🐎

  11. Ure, Fraser and Lovelace, who I'd talked up in a different thread, were really disappointing. None of them will make our first team based on that performance. Lovelace scored the second and made the third to be fair, but he's slow and was easily dispossessed by a Celtic defence that didn't loom all that good either. Ure will be lucky to make it as a footballer at any level if that's the standard he performs at. As has already been mentioned Bailey Rice, at 16 one of the youngest on the pitch, really stood out. I thought Arron Lyall had some nice moments too, but at 19 you have to assume he's not going to make it at Rangers now either. The lad Graham who came on as a sub did well, albeit he should never be allowed to take a penalty again. Lowry is a frustrating player. He clearly has so much ability but every pass he tries is a Hollywood pass and so many simply don't come off. If he could understand when it's better to simply retain possession he'd be a much better player. Some day a manager will figure out how to get into his head and get the best from him, I hope that's Beale but I worry it might not be. Celtic had a few players who were very fast, much faster than anyone on our team. They also had a forward who scored two goals who looked like he really knows the way to goal, his second was a superb finish. Beyond that I didn't think they were anything great. Like us they'd a few bombscare moments in defence but perhaps had a better keeper. It'll be interesting to see if Rice can progress.

  12. I think nearly everyone at the club knew that the time to start the overhauling of the squad that SG&Co built was directly after 55 (summer 2021) and by the end of following summer transfer window (2022) to have it more or less finished. The main reason it hasn't happened is financial. The consequences are obvious. For all that we trumpeted Ross Wilson and the modern progressive football department they failed, albeit with one arm tied behind their back. Not surprised that Wilson took the opportunity to move. The situation we have in front of us has been wrapped up in a parcel and coming down the line for a while. Some may say we are not that far behind our main rivals, we only lost by a goal etc. Get some decent players in and....etc. Financialy, we are miles behind them and are always looking to try and finance that chronic loss making deficit. It's been like that for decades now.

  15. Well, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Many laughed at the Japanese gang et al, yet, they did what was needed (and it ain't too much a job pummeling SPFL teams into submission). Our players were IMHO not that much worse, but they either were injured or couldn't come up with the goods when required. You can't tell that in advance, though ... and truth be told, most of them delivered in Europe. IMHO, some war far too comfortable in their "always-first-pick comfort zone", while we far too often did not apply the correct tactics for the games at hand. We simply didn't have the players capable of beating the brickwall sides in a fashion the Scum has done for years now, yet we persist with these tactics, no matter what. The last four managers fell over that hurdle and one hopes that Beale finally wakes up.

  16. I would take that with pretty much all our squad in fairness. As frustrating as Aribo could be, he played a hefty part in 55 and in the EL final campaign, all for a cross border development fee of, what, 350k ? And sold for 8 mill ? Yes please

  17. Scratch that. He’s twenty, twenty-one in October. Too old.

  18. I wouldn’t read Elfideldo’s reports. He tells what happened on the pitch, describes scoring moves in detail and assesses players’ performances. Nothing about the players’ favourite group or what cars they drive or where they’re going for their holidays with their girl friends. That’s real football reporting. None of the boring left-footed-shot-from-the-edge-of-the-box stuff.

  19. I don't mind targeting the cast-offs of (top) PL sides. How come they're built like a brick shithouse? And our youngsters are midgets? Compare them to Billy Gilmour.

  20. Are we getting quality from our money now? Celtics Japanese contingent are on a fraction of our top earners wages. Kyogo on the same as Colak. I'd take Shankland as 3rd choice for 5-10k.

  21. Quality will cost money. We don't want to sign players like Shankland and Co. in the 5 to 10k bracket, but on the other side won't accept higher wages for better players? BTW, there are sure some good players out and about in the German BL, BL2 and their u23 teams, who will most likely not demand wages like a Sterling, if that one is actually true.

  22. That was a child's toy, lost by some poor wean, from its pram. And you ate it. Any easy mistake to make, I am sure. especially, if you thought you were at The Fat Duck. Mind you, the fact that the 'balloon' part was not filled with the foamed testicles of camelidae should have tipped you the wink. Of course, if you had started on the stick, probably better to continue and avoid embarrassment.

  23. Our 3 strikers at the moment are on approx Morelos 30-35k, Roofe on approx 28k, and Colak on 18k. A bit stupid really.

  24. I read that Kieron Dowell is on about 7k at Norwich. If he is coming here for 10k a week to be a squad player then its perhaps not that big a risk.

  25. And when your defenders look as though they should have pigs' bladders....but on a stick?

  26. That was alright in the days of amateurs when they kicked about a pig's bladder. It doesn't cut it now.

  28. It’s looking like the Glazier family will accept Jim Radcliffe’s offer to buy the club this will not be welcomed by the die hard united fans as it will mean the Glazier family will fill their boots as well as keep a stake in the club . Now the as the arab looks like he’s out I wonder if someone could interest him in buying Rangers and Everton mon the blues

  29. If Allan McGregor had retired at the end of last season he would have left with his impressive legacy intact. Now he’s widely and rightly considered a liability. It’s such a pity but he should never play another game for Rangers.

  30. You know there are several good reasons why we should. We take the higher moral position, we have the courage to exhibit our better side, it would set a precedent, we are showing necessary leadership, ...................... etc. Thus, on careful consideration - get that idea tae fcuk.

  32. I'd take van veen, bloody good player, free transfer, low wages, a good couple of years in him yet, at least. I'm not saying he's I'm any way as good, but Caniggia didn't too badly for us, did he?. He's very good playing the lone striker, for a pretty poor team. A far better shirt filler than Roofe, at least he'd turn up.

  33. I've listened to part one. A great interview. A fascinating insight what happened to the club while Paul was involved, covering the end of SDM, Craig Whyte and the sale to Charles Green. Well worth listening to. And for what it's worth, it's nothing to do with C1872, but kudos to them for sharing.

  34. Sounds awful. Part of a back 3 which has conceded 58 goals this season as Birmingham finish 17th. Hooked off today after an hour as they are 2 down at home. Why do we continue to try to find players from this god-awful overpriced league? Hopefully just media talk and no truth in it. Our scouting division must have no passports.
