The worth of individual games is somewhat limited right now. More important is stopping the rot and achieving the right direction of travel. Then starting to build positive momentum. In that respect I thought this game was a small but useful step.4 points

The Tom Tom Club. The Rugby World Cup has come and is almost gone. All the home nations have fallen and the final is another southern hemisphere battle. The convenience has passed and Tom English has returned to his BBC Scotland Chief Sports Writer beat. There is a problem, Sellik have told PQ and Tom he is NOT welcome at either ra Stade de Gadd or Lennoxtown. Pre season Tom struck a bum note, relating the facts of Brendan Rodgers last departure from Parkhead. Dermot and Peter were playing a different rhythm insisting Tom was out of step. PQ has been snared. Initially, the Beeb were out but PQ bleated about the need to provide a service. By the third home game, Peter decided to allow the national broadcaster back in, Tom too if he apologised. So far, Tom has been playing fillers but as yet, no apology. Last night, Sellik played Atletico in the Champions League and Tom was confined to the PQ studio, sharing bongos with Kenny Macintyre. More interestingly, Chris McLaughlin was on another grassy knoll astride ra Sellik Way pre-match, then popped up inside the Nine studio for a mid second half update. Both Tom and Chris are NOT welcome. The Peter approved triangle was Liam McLeod, Pat Bonner and, James McFadden at the game, they stuck to a rapid happy clappy Peter approved staccato. No discussion of the Green Brigade and the great flag flutter. BBC Scotland has decided to beat retreat. Compare and contrast? As this thread moves into it's sixth year, we can see the difference in way both sets of supporters have been treated. There was a period of several months where the licence paying Rangers support received no service. It graduated to a designated person ie Craig Paterson, Steven Thomson, Chick Young, ....... etc ordered to sit on the naughty step and watch a studio monitor, then go twelve rounds with the English language telling of their, "belief", "apparently" and, "I'm hearing" to give Rangers supporters a thirty second match report. Richard Gordon offered opposition managers a grievance line whilst throwing daggers. Suffice to say, PQ coverage of our four year Euro' run was two clowns in a studio watching the TV, three and half years of Steven Gerrard's tenure and not a single second of an interview. All because Rangers withdrew Chris McLaughlin's press privileges. License Fee paying Rangers supporters were deliberately denied a full service for five years, the Yahoos missed one game and PQ has given assurance after assurance that everything was being done to restore normal relations. Where are those Journalistic principles that were so to the fore for five years? Tom and Chris appear to be the only two members of the Tom Tom Club.4 points

Given he was apparently backing Lampard I think I can leave his consultancy expertise behind.3 points

I disagree Frankie. I think that performance showed a sense of unity and togetherness that's been missing IMO.3 points

It shifted when Wright came on ... and Sparta ran out of steam. Let's give Danilo a run with Sima, they look capable. Fair share of points - all things concerned.3 points

Take that and do them at Ibrox. Beat Sparta and Aris at home and we have 10 points - that gets us through imo. Souttar Motm for me but Butland was a giant tonight as well. Sell him for 5m and I think fans would riot!3 points

Ultimately, tonight was another example of the limitations of various players - new and old alike. Dessers can't run and isn't physical so pointless in these games. Lammers runs about but has no idea where he should be. Raskin has again performed his regular disappearing act. Meanwhile Sima and Cantwell can't get on the ball because various others can't pass it ten yards accurately. We have to be so much better but I can't see it happening until the new manager has new players.3 points

Davies at left-back but staying back to create a situational back-three? Clement liked that at Monaco. Tavernier and Sima providing the width.3 points

A good opportunity here for the manager. Winning tonight, with these terrible players, would be a sign of good things to come.3 points

Hyperbolic as per usual. We have 2 very winnable home games after this therefore a draw would not be the end of the world. A draw also prevents Sparta from pulling away from us and Aris won't pick up many more IMO. We should be going out to win but if we came back with a draw I would be pretty chuffed to be honest.3 points

The first half, in and out of possession we were awful. It was another thank God for Jack Butland. The second half, we worked our way into it. Butland got a well deserved rest and their Keeper was busier. The German Referee was appalling. I do not want to stray into hyperbole but, I have never seen such a well choreographed side as Sparta. There were half-a-dozen incidents of players inside their OWN eighteen yard box falling down under the challenge, one hand clutching the alleged impact area whilst the other hand is raised appealing for Referee action.2 points

Hopefully Clement makes some sort of change because Sparta are going to score soon if it continues like this. Lammers is a waste of a jersey.2 points

Aye I'm over egging it but when Suttons slaughtering us and stoking the fire and Allys just sat there laughing it's just a bit distasteful you know? At least you can see Boyd hates doing punditry with him and calls him out. Maybe I'm being pedantic but still, we need our ex players and heroes to stand up for us and the club - we've been trampled over for years.2 points

A real legend. I feel like I didn’t appreciate him enough at the time. Thanks for everything Walter.2 points

Maybe our manager could bring in some tough Belgian defenders something like the old Anderlecht player Culot who nearly murdered Alex Scott many year ago that was my kind of defender made chopper Harris look like a fairy .2 points

This. We forget that Rangers also has a social history just as vibrant and on occasion tragic, just like our players and team.2 points

I just feel anyone who thinks FF is the answer probably isn't ready for a voice of their own. Gersnet is blessed with people of such higher stature that there really isn't any meaningful decision to make. ..... apart from the bleeding heart lefties, weirdo Russian sympathisers and lunatics with music references that defy understanding. Apart from them, Gersnet is essentially perfect. 😁2 points

I don't think he wants anything too stressful or impactful. Probably some PR gig under the badge. He is in his golden years. This is the normal progression of things for old folks. He can putter around, rub elbows, and STS with football people all while reppin Rangers. It will be good for him and the team.1 point

I am reminded of a story my Old Man used to relate. He was attending a fund raiser in the Kenilworth Hotel for (Masonic) Lodge Shalom in the late 60s. Mike Winters was in attendance being a prominent British Jew. Jack House was the speaker and he told of Mike and Bernie Winters introduction to Glasgow theatre. It was a second house at the notorious Empire in 1960. They were the stars of the show and introduced as the toast of London. Mike Winters strolled on to the stage and told several jokes - no reaction. He picked up his clarinet(he was a product of the London Royal Conservatoire) and played an intricate medley - no reaction. Panic levels rising and Bernie appeared flashing his lugubrious teeth - there was a reaction as a member of the audience bawled, "aw fcuk ah hope there's only two of them"? Apparently, Mike Winters laughed as loudly as everyone else in the Kenilworth audience.1 point

Be interesting to see how the atmosphere unfolds. Listening to that Czech journalist the other day talking about the united hatred for Rangers in the Czech Republic was strange. Hatred based on the fact that we called them out as racists and then were fully vindicated when kids were targeting our black players.1 point

Have Celtic banned English and McLaughlin? I didn't know that, very interesting. I see the 'flags' story is the lead on the BBC Scotland web page this lunchtime. How it's even 'news' is beyond me, far less the leading story. Who cares what flags they choose to wave. Another bizarre editorial decision.1 point

A draw would do me tonight, not entirely sure if we will be good enough to get it but hopeful we are. What I definitely want to see though are obvious tactics in play, a defined shape with players looking like they know their role, and if required, changes mid-game to deal with the on-field situation. If we make individual errors which cost us the game but get the previously mentioned, I could probably live with that, but I want to see that he can pick a side to go out and, with a fair wind, get a positive result.1 point
