  1. There were too many basic errors including the mistake by Goldson for their first goal
    5 points
  2. Manager lacked faith in players and bravery with that selection/formation. From the moment they hit the ball long at the K.O. we never asserted ourselves. They knew we had gifted them from the moment they saw our team sheet. Far too negative. They have the quality middle to front and are likely to score and our selection/formation never had 2 goals in it. Brown strolled through that game which says it all - last season we ran him ragged. Aribo backing out of tackle isn’t good enough. You just can’t do that. Benefit of doubt that Thursday took its toll but to not test that Celtic defence is pretty damning and Stevie Gerrard has to take primary responsibility on this one.

  3. Absolutely dreadful! Aribo was appalling. Katic was really poor. Tab had another shocker. Arfield looks slow. JD got no service. Team selection was bemusing. The worst performance this season by a country mile. They looked sharper and hungrier. However, they also looked a poor side which shows you how bad we were!! Appalling!!

  4. Thought it was Goldson that gave the ball away for their first.

  5. This post absolutely reeks! Please get a grip of yourself.

  6. Have we played Aribo, Arfield, Davis, Kamara and Jack before in a game? We knew that Ajer was out for them meaning that their poor left back would be playing. Piss poor team selection from the manager, we’re the home team far too defensive. Got abuse before on here for saying the Goldson always makes a mistake, and he did again today. Not many got pass marks though. Celtic played like Aberdeen and won, says it all.

  7. These type of knee jerk reactions are quite embarrassing tbh!. Some fans need to take a step back and think before posting!!

  8. He has been very poor in the last three games. St Mirren, Legia and today. I am beginning to question him? I stand by what I said, he appeared out his depth today. Kamara going off was crazy? Aribo should have been hooked not Kamara.

  9. No idea what Gerrard was thinking?

  10. Every penny we have spent on transfers was on the bench or in the stands. 10 new players is it and one started. Ridiculous

  11. He had 3 or 4 blunders on Thursday which might have cost us the group stages. Not wanting to single him out, but if his defending in big games continues, he might be used as a right winger instead. Generally below standard though, hardly a good cross, free-kick and corner either.

  12. If we’re reduced to moping over the departed Candeias then things must be far worse than I thought. Keep an eye open for signs of Windassitis creeping in.

  13. He may well have wanted to leave if he wasn’t getting game time but he shouldn’t have been allowed to leave unless we were sure we had a replacement

  14. The team selection was okay, I thought. I don't think Aribo is a forward/attacking midfielder, but there's always one poster saying he should be played there. Aribo just wasn't up for it, for me; I chalk it down to inexperience, as the lad's got talent. I was most annoyed at the performance, more than anything else. Too many players were incapable passing a simple ball.

  15. Helander looks slow to me. Frankly some of the others you mentioned aren’t good enough & should be moved on(if possible)

  16. Yes and aribo was shite. All those new players and one starts and fails. That's not a successful window.

  17. It wasn't but lots of regs would have rightly sent McGregor off and it's hard to imagine that not making a huge difference. Main culprit was gerrard though.

  18. And Jones should have been on long long before ojo
    2 points
  19. I don't! McGregor was dangerous, Jones was miss timed!. Jones was at the end of the match and was stupid, McGregor was allowed to influence the match result. I've yet to see the Morelos incident when he was on the ground after winning a free kick then the Separate Entity FC player slammed the ball into him when he was on the ground. Before all the '' ref was not to blame '' crew start I'm not saying that, but he did let them away with ,murder again!.

  20. True. Also Celtic had 7 changes from the team that lost to us 2-0 in the last Ibrox game - including entire back 4 and goalie. We never pressed them sufficiently. We had nobody today to do the Kent role and nobody pressing like Candeias (I accept he had quality limitations). Last season we played 4-2-3-1 in the 2-0 game and 4-3-3 in the 1-0 game but we had width and high press from Candeias and Kent in that 1-0 game and Kent created lots of problems going forward in the 2-0. Today we had 4-3-3 but played more like a 4-5-1 and it was more akin to the lineup at Parkhead where we lost 2-1. I don’t really know if it was line up or instructions or players just playing badly but I think it was probably a combo of all 3 but today we sat deeper than last years Ibrox games and we didn’t press high against a questionable Celtic defence. The closest replacement to Kent would have been Jones to start or Ojo and given their new defence Morelos would have surely tested them more than Defoe with little midfield creativity. Apart from anything else Morelos is well overdue a goal in these games. Today was a gilt edge opportunity. It looks to me as if we were inhibited. Why is hard to tell exactly but the tactics and line up looked wrong and/or the players didn’t do what they were told. I’m afraid that comes back to the gaffer.

  21. Kent never really got going up until after x-mas. Spending 5 or 7m on him is based on his last three months and one hopes he never loses that form again. Candeias is indeed a big loss for Tavernier, but in saying that, we brought in Ojo and Hastie even before Candeias went. Both raw and in the same state as Kent was at the same state last season. IMHO, too raw for an Old Firm game. Jones is a threat down the left wing, but only if we play him. As soon as Arfield was back, Jones dropped to the bench. Perhaps he is more of an impact player, but against the Yahoos, whom he knows, he would have been a good starting choice. Stewart is primarily a back-up striker for Defoe and Morelos. One that can be played on the wings. Yet, as with Jones, he needs to be on the pitch to be counted. And Ojo probably has that "if fit he must play" clause in his loan deal?! Remember that Kent could do no wrong for long spells at the start of last season too. Today was match day 4, there is a long way to go yet. You would hope today was a learning experience and SG and Co. take note.

  22. Lot of knee jerk reactions, typical after losing to them, we were poor in every area, team selection was dubious, however they were just as bad, we gifted them 2 goals and that's about it. First defeat of the season and all of a sudden we are a terrible team and the manager is shite, the players just never turned up. Long season to go so onwards and upwards after the break.

  23. Lost the ball a lot but we had 5 centre mids and they had 3. It was crowded. We had no width no outlets for the ball. Tactics were just nonsense

  24. Ah well , that's that then, too many below par performances from players that you thought might have done better, some poor passing and decision making, and a general lack of sharpness and urgency have all contributed to todays defeat.

  26. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some activity tomorrow. In and out. The way ahead now is to win the League Cup, qualify for the EL last 32 & still be within touching distance with celtic in the league before we go to Parkhead at Xmas. I suspect we will play them at Hampden again before then though. That will be a massive game. If we haven’t improved by then, it really can’t be dismissed as a bad day at the office..

  27. As I said above, it's been coming. While the defense usually is solid and held well today (yep, a stray pass can hurt you badly, but overall they weren't all over us or we panicked ... for an OF game that is). But whatever happened after Hibs is still bugging us up to now. 13 days to get this out of the system and hammer Livingston. Wee sidnote / observation ... while you can blame it on slack passes, on Thursday as well as today the surface seemed to be somewhat sluggish, like balls were getting slower every now and then, even stopped? As if there was too much water on it.

  28. Seriously?? He has been one of the worst Thursday and today.

  29. Candeias is not the answer. He would not have made a difference today. I still would have kept him around, but didn't he want to leave?

  30. Have you done any market research. Do they need a garden centre in Glenrothes. That is just a joke by the way.

  31. I would save the pelters until he's finished panicking and regained a morsel of composure.

  32. It is a matter of great regret to learn that you suffer from a similar lack of imagination to 917. I would like to give him 'pelters' but I'll probably need to be polite about it now.

  33. Let us see if you can imagine any other possible reason why Defoe would play ahead of Morelos. Hint: there are loads of possible reasons.

  34. Prior to the game, when thinking about who we should play, I found myself thinking Candeias would have been useful today. Surprised to find that I felt the same way at full time. Ojo proved something I suspected beforehand. I thought he didn't have the right character for a match like this. Quite a few times he gave the ball up without a fight. If he goes on to learn from this I'll be pleasantly surprised. A few players under-performed today; Jack, Goldson, Tavernier and Aribo. Can't think what was wrong with the first three. Aribo just looked flat footed. It's as if he didn't expect the pace of the game today. If that's the problem then at least he can adapt. It's too much to liken him to Windass though.

  35. To much pasing to each other in the middle not once did I see any of our boys making space for themselves by moving off the ball all this nonsense of trying to play from the back that's okay if your Manchester city our lads are not up to that kind of game we should have had to men down the wings getting in crosses for the Buffalo not waiting until the 56th minute before putting a shot on their goal , totally inept the whole lot of them
    1 point
  36. But for inept finishing you could have been writing that about the Legia game. I love Tav but if Barasic, Halliday or Flanagan had made as many errors as the captain had this season they'd be getting dog's abuse. He needs to up his game.

  37. No idea how the ref can send off Jones but not McGregor. Celtc though were comfortable winners and gerrard has to take the blame for that. The team selection tactics and subs were baffling. The recruitment this summer has been misjudged as well.

  38. Horrendous..... There better be better plans behind the scenes. Gerrard is not inept.

  39. Tav gifted them the opener, after that it was waiting to happen. Fortune kissed them twice today, they were hardly unbeatable, but the form book went according to plan. Make no mistake, ever since we hammered Hibs at home, we have been far from convincing in the final third. And if you don't take your chances, better teams will punish you. Had hoped we start far more positive, even though we contained them well enough. In the end it did not need Madden.

  40. It's worth noting that it's the same team who won at Ibrox except Aribo for Kent.

  41. I for one would have liked Jones on the left wing and leave Kamara on the bench. Ojo's got a knock AFAIK, so he wasn't a starter. Jack has been rather offensive of late, so he may have a free'er role than usual. We shall see ...

  42. First mistake of the day , leaving Morelos on the bench .
    1 point
  43. Hard to predict this one, as they have not really been tested against a quality attack force. nor have a good handful of their lot experienced an Old Firm game. Our defence looks solid - Tav had his 3-4 lackadaiscial moments of the seasons last Thursday and thus is cured, one hopes - JAck and Davis know the score, it is up to us to take our chances. They say the form book goes out of the window, but it would be quite a week if we can pull 3 points away from them. Everyone needs to be up for it from the off ... and one hopes Madden has his good days. I would assume Defoe gets the nod, just to make sure the ref gets no early decision-making. EDIT: Ha! SG knew my thoughts
