The main overall objective for most I think was to turn the clubs fortunes around and create a base from which we have a chance to get our title back asp. This was done in very difficult circumstances and there were and still are various battles to overcome. I think there has been a great effort by an amazingly loyal support attending football matches. Club 1872 and it's members, despite predictable teething problems have also stepped up and contributed greatly. Kudos to the board and Dave King for making the move in 2015 and directing many of those ongoing battles. This particular story is a step of what was a structured debt strategy talked about by DK back in 2015. We needed DK, DP, GL, GT and others. They needed the support.4 points

That's a a difficult question to answer for me as there are too many variables to make the conclusion accurate. I said recently on the Gersnet Podcast, my own favourite Rangers player was Richard Gough but clearly he was a very different character and player to Laudrup. In terms of sheer entertainment and skill on the ball, then it's difficult (in the modern era at least) to think of better than Laudrup. I'm sure some of our elder Gersnet statespeople will point to Morton, Baxter or Cooper for that crown but perhaps we should just be content to remember the positive contribution of all our heroes instead of looking to find negativity where none need exist.2 points

A decent debate question is - was Laudrup better then Gascoigne? For me its a yes.2 points

Oxford - why? Marseilles - paying the cheats who robbed us of a Champions League final place? Disgusting! Blackburn - meh Thankfully I didn’t tick the box to get these automatically, really angry we are playing the Froggy cheats. Shows a total lack of understanding of our history which is hugely disappointing.2 points

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/05/england-fans-baton-charged-portugese-police-nations-league-porto I was just reading about this earlier (missed the game last night). What goes through these morons heads? Not much obviously. I genuinely feel sorry for the real England fans that just want to follow their team without having to be caught up with these idiots. I thought after Russia, things may have changed but it seems that these muppets just didn't find the means to get there. Behaving like this on the 5th June as well. They should be bloody embarrassed and banned from travelling for life1 point

A seat on the board with something to say anyway. Unless King and the 3 bears fall out any decision is a formality.1 point

It's 'chavs' in England. Some lads like a scrap and drink usually exacerbates this, hence they get even more animated when abroad. A bit like some of our own in Manchester 11 years ago.1 point

Not sure about the ages but I coach 8/9 year olds for a school team and it's mixed. Not sure how it works elsewhere tbh1 point

It's football. very few countries don't have their football hooligans. Holland, Germany, Italy, Poland, etc etc etc.1 point

I just don't get it. I would kill for a few days of football watching, a few beers and some nice grub in lovely city like Porto. I have an English mate who used to follow England a lot and then he got up in all the nonsense in France at the Euros (Nice I think?) and he's done with it. Football tournies like this should be celebration not an excuse to vocalise some warped and ignorant display of English identity. It's baffling1 point

I'd be sceptical about a deal for Sturridge. Last time he played a lot of league minutes was 2013/14 .....(2276 minutes) One of only two seasons in his entire career to do so From 2014/15 he's played a total of 3541 League minutes Since he joined for 2015/16, James Tavernier has played more than 3,000 minutes league minutes in each of his 4 seasons at Ibrox (total 12950)1 point

Speculating what the speculation might have been should give ample room for most available players to be linked.1 point

All for differing opinions but Laudrup wasn't over-rated. Yes, he perhaps was never truly an elite player (and if you're playing with Rangers then it suggests you have some weaknesses compared to the very best) but he was fantastic for us and for Denmark so he was definitely levels above most typical Scottish/Rangers class players. Perhaps he was let down by other areas of the team at the time he played for us when it comes to our struggles in Europe but, in Scotland, he was unplayable for the vast majority of his time here and he'll always be a (or the) focal point of one our most successful periods in Scottish football.1 point

Spot-on, Michael was without doubt, world class and was an automatic starter at the elite clubs he played for (Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid) Playing in Scotland, Brian looked out of this world. Apparently, their Dad could play as well. He scored the winner for Denmark in a game against Scotland back in 1971. More talent in one family than the whole of Scotland has had in 50 years. ------------------------ This thread reminded me of this video, especially at 40 seconds1 point

I guess it depends on your definition of world class, and people could argue about that all day. Goram was world class, and arguably Butcher and possibly Gough were. However I would say that Laudrup is the best player to play in Scotland over the last 50 years, and arguably ever.1 point

We really shouldn't be putting Laudrup or Gazza in the same sentence as any of our recent players. As far as im concerned, I don't care how good/poor/risky they were anywhere else ..... they were BRILLIANT for us and certainly the two best players I've ever seen in the jersey. Can't we just leave it at that? This has made me feel down now. When will we ever see players of this calibre in our team again? It may not be in my life time.1 point

I thought I'd put this 'debate' into its own thread, and keep the transfer rumours thread free for... transfer rumours. Get a move on Stevie-boy!1 point

Eh sorry Tom, deflecting won’t work this time. Your sewer of a club are up to their disgraceful neck in the stench of child abuse and cover up, and this is only the start. Focus on what’s really important rather than naughty songs.1 point
