  1. "I don't think it affected the result, if my memory is right." ?? Many, many moons ago I was gainfully employed in what was then the Clydeway Industrial Centre, these days, post gentrification it's The Skypark. It had a very different look and feel in the 80s, it was owned by Glasgow Council then and housed mainly light industrial companies by day and ladies of the night by, err, night. On the ground floor was a business who I think were called Heatwise. At a time of mass unemployment they employed a lot of guys who were long term unemployed. The idea was they got used to working again and perhaps learned some new skills. It was quite worthy and a decent idea on paper. In reality it had a load of guys who had to go there for a few months are they'd lose their broo, so motivation and application wasn't always what it might have been. Anderson Primary School was alongside and it had a red blaes pitch, on those rare warm Glasgow days the lads from Heatwise would head down to the pitch for a kickabout of a lunchtime. Around this time the Provisional IRA were fairly active with bombings, and one sunny lunchtime the building's alarm went off and the building was cleared as fire engines and Strathclyde's finest descended on the building and a full search was carried out. We were outside for well over an hour before it was deemed a false alarm. A few days later the same thing happened, again, strangely it was a warm day and again squad cars and firemen rushed to the scene. This happened another 3 times over the next month and even the most work shy of us was starting to get a bit hacked off. On the final occasion this happened a large polis and senior fireman asked the crowd gathering outside in the muster area who among us worked for Heatwise. A couple raised their hands and further fingers were pointed towards the football pitch where the main body of the workforce were furiously engaged in what looked like a full scale 11 a side match. The copper marched onto the pitch, picked up the ball and told them they had to go into the building to help with the search for the 'bomb'. He marched them all into the building, came back out and told us we could all go back in too now. Strangely, there were no more bomb scares after that. I wonder if James Joseph Doherty's dad worked at Heatwise...

  2. It's the usual mixture of loan repayments and some fresh capital.

  4. Unclear whether it's new cash or loans being converted.

  5. I think Wilshere would be a risk to the cohesion and spirit of the squad and that's the last thing we need.

  6. Largely, 'whataboutery', as far as I know, although I have seen it suggested that the cabbage and ribs have, appropriately enough, some skeletons in the cupboard. Rangers, unfortunately, employed one Neely, as a youth coach, recruited from Leith, from where he had been dismissed for pederasty, or similar. He was sacked by Souness (and Smith), in short order, following complaints of inappropriate suggestions. Personally, I am surprised that our managers, at the time, did not give him a good kicking.

  7. I've was told a while ago that Wiltshire's lifestyle issues are fairly acute and injuries were used to cover up for lengthy absences caused by other reasons. The fact no one in England signed him tells its own story.

  8. I wouldnt disagree compo - my point really was that he hasnt been injured for two years - he has been fit for 8 months. Depending on wage, IMHO Wilshere would be worth a punt - he is a quality player and still only 28. Yes, there are injury concerns, but the quality he brings, at the right wage obviously, would be worth the risk IMO.

  9. If it was new cash would they not have had to offer to the other shareholders in order to dilute the shareholding ? Either that o get shareholder approval to issue the new shares without offering to current shareholders ? I suspect if it were new cash we would have found out about it through C1872 as one of the major shareholders. I a obviously guessing too but I would suspect this is conversion of loans to equity.

  10. Thank God this window nonsense is over someone said look at Jack Wilshere well dont look to hard at him in case you Injure him he's hardly completed a full game since 2018

  11. Well, the window didn't pan out the way I expected and we didn't sign the second attacking midfielder I hoped we would, but you have to be very pleased, all things considered. Not one of us expected to end the window having spent more than £10m and having only brought in about £1m. But in doing that we have finally moved on number of bit part players who weren't good enough, and we have brought in a mix of quality players who will challenge for a starting place as well as some necessary cover players. Roofe, Hagi, Itten and Zungu will all strengthen the match day squad. Bassey, Balogun and McLaughlin improve the quality of our backups. I said right at the beginning of the window I felt this was the time to cash in on Morelos, I do think we would be stronger if we had done that early in the window and spent the money. We don't know what went on, but from a distance it looks like we priced him out of a move. But now that he is here to stay he better get his act together fast and realise that he is playing himself out of the move he wants.

  12. I think this is a good signing. We needed another body in the midfield. Supposedly, he can play as a #6 and a #8. Looking at the Youtube clips again, he looks more physically imposing than I remembered, and he looks like he's a very good passer of the ball. I've now convinced myself that he's world-class.

  14. Sweet Thursday. I don’t know, does John Steinbeck still hold sway? He wrote what he knew, the Monterey peninsula was the every time setting. Political commentary such as ‘the Grapes of Wrath’ competed with pot boiling page turners, ‘East of Eden’, room had to be found for regular morality tales, ‘Of Mice and Men’, and relief was found in, ‘Canary Row’ and, ‘Sweet Thursday’. Steinbeck was an everyday reading type of Author. I have long loved the cannon, twenty-five years ago I dragged the wife to California for a month, to pay homage. Standing on a corner of downtown Gilroy, as an open backed truck full of garlic passed wafting a thermal wave, is a real test of eye-watering love of literature. Sweet Thursday is a tale of what’s important in life, the noise and light being created by the community whore house, store, restaurant, bar, ....... etc are the essentials of our eponymous hero, Doc’s existence. His very being, a Marine Biologist relies on the camaraderie, the contentment, the honesty of prostitution, the nostalgia, the superficial take on his community; it is his most particular eco-system. As unique as any other garden inhabited by an octopus. The PQ Gang Hut is a culture, as vibrant as any other smear in a petrie dish. The bombastic camaraderie on display reinforces the mental imagery demanded by radio. Scotland has two clubs left in European competition, Rangers and Sellik are vying for Europa Cup group stage qualification. Big Dick introduces the Blarney Bhoys, Willie Miller, James McFadden, and Billy Dodds at six O’Clock. The discussion on ra hooped horrors visit to Sarajevo lasted 35 minutes. Like Steinbeck and Monterey, this is familiar. Pat and Tom take us through the individual players, the sections of the team, the managements style of play, .... etc. Everyone contributes, everyone wants to he heard contributing, it’s hopeful, the Scots banner is being carried. Now, ra Sellik game kicks off at seven, so 25 minutes left for Rangers discussion? Well, there’s European tour golf being played in North Berwick. Brian McLauchlin reports for five minutes and mentions Paul Lawrie will probably sign off after this event. Cue Big Dick, Liam McLeod, and Willie Miller telling us all again how much a Dandy Don is our Paul. Tom and Pat contribute too, then camaraderie of that day’s golfing foursome is recalled in warm nostalgia. It begins with Tom, “ah hear Ireland won again”? Another five minutes disappears as Big Dick debates with the Blarney Bhoys, the nationality of their Producer, Frank. Paired with Pat, the Newton Mortgage broth of a Bhoy assures the listeners that Frank’s in-laws are all good Donegal stock. As bonding exercises go, the weekly golfing foursome must be the envy of all BBC Radio Scotland listeners? Those of us, and and I suspect we might be the majority, relegated to standing on the sidelines, raging and beefing; when is the Rangers preview? Finally, at a quarter to seven, Big Dick turned to Billy Dodds and for the next five minutes we endured an interrupted discourse of platitudes. Players not discussed, side not broken into departments, and our manager’s style of play might have been ....... well, anything ..... because Billy was cut off as Liam McLeod began his live pitch side interview with Neil Lennon. I understand Liam was inside PQ and Neil was standing in Sarajevo on a hot, sunny afternoon - where the hell is Gabriel Princeps when you need him? Rangers do not have a hand on that Scots standard, we don’ t participate in the golf foursome, we are not worthy of 35 minutes of discussion, our manager is not interviewed, Billy Dodds willingly sits on the naughty step and provides very occasional up dates from Rangers TV, ........ etc. Steinbeck knew a narrative had to contain honesty, the fact the only honesty available in Cannery Row came from the whores, meant that the fabric could not hold without their essential weave. At what point do the Gang Hut acknowledge this essential truth?

  15. Hibs chairman, Kenny Waugh, sacked Neely knowing full well he was child molester, but didn't tell anyone for fear of reputaional damage to his club: Former Hibs chairman ‘sacked coach at centre of sex abuse scandal but didn’t tell police’, source claims As a result, Rangers employed Neely without any way of knowing what a danger he was. Fortunately, it seems he was rumbled before he did any real damage - one of the Rangers youth players, whose dad was a cop, reported him after a dodgy conversation, and Neely was subsequently fired. Much more should have been made of that Sunday Post article. If it comes to light that Neely did abuse anyone following Hibs' cover-up, they deserve to be fucking crucified.

  17. I think that he is worth a look, if he is interested: Get him up to Auchenhowie, over the International Break; full medical, drugs tests, full training, 5/7-a-sides, bounce game versus St M, St Jo, Ayr, QoS, whomever, and if he comes through all that with flying colours, field him as A.Trialist at Piggery Place.

  18. If I was Gerrard, I’d invite him to train with us. None of us really know what his health and fitness is like right now, and if he’s still got a career left in him. If it was an either/or situation then he’s not the right call, too big a gamble. However, we’ve got our midfield target so if it’s a case of ‘and’ he’s worth a look, perhaps a deal til the end of the season, with option to extend that.

  19. He is a free agent so we (or any other club) can still sign him. A respected West Ham tweeter suggested last night that we are interested. For what it's worth, don't think we'll make a move but stranger things have happened

  21. It might have been a lasting resolution if it applied (say) until all director loans had been resolved. Otherwise there should have been a notice asking if we wanted to exercise our pre-emption rights.

  25. All in all a decent window with some good additions and our better players staying. We still have Roofe and Aribo to return from injury and now have decent options all over the pitch.

  26. If he dreams of moving he will have to knuckle down and play to his very best and he can start by thumping in the goals

  27. It was noted elsewhere that West Ham has released Jack Wilshire (and "we are interested"). Unless I am mistaken, we can still sign freebies after tonight, as per usual. As for Zungu, let's see him play in our midfield and then - again as per usual - see how he copes. It probably is not too bad that they are not exposed to the 50k of groaning and cheering Bears from the off ?

  28. Well, from what I can glean, and f w i w, Zungu seems to be a go-er, on loan, it seems. It appears, also, that he can play either No 6, or No 8, and is a good passer. So if he has, or can add, goals to his game.....we will have signed the fitba' holy grail of defensive midfield striker. What's not to like?

  29. I will have have a fair bit to say on PQ’s latest bleating today, the appearance of Doncaster, Mulraney, and Michael Stewart was a given stage to take over from Holicom. However, the latest desire by Cosgrove and Cowan to ensure the Rectum of Dundee(elected unopposed) remains quite important cannot proceed without remark. Today’s Limerick first line was, ‘ Jim Spence was a bit of a flitter’, and it was put out to the listeners? No surprise that the announced winner constructed the following : Jim Spence was a bit of a flitter, In a row he was never a quitter, He astounded the nation, When he said liquidation, Means your club has gone down the shitter. Jum has Tweeted he will frame the winning verse. As of yesterday, Dundee Uni’ had announced three accommodation halls/residences had declared quarantine because of Covid. Jum, like many of his fellow political travellers, chooses not to tweet such information. Jum prefers the warm comfort of his hatred.

  30. BBC Ceefax this evening, 2nd of October’20, the report on the Europa Cup group stage draw held at noon on the day, : “FA Cup winners, Arsenal will face league of Ireland side, Dundalk, Rapid Vienna and Molde in Group B of the 2020-22 Europa League. Tottenham have been drawn alongside a Bulgarian champions Ludogorets, LASK and a Royal Antwerp in group J. Leicester City will face Braga, AEK Anthens and Ukrainian side Zoroaster Luhansk in Group G. Scottish champions Celtic face a tough task in Group H as they take on AC Milan,Lille and Sparta Prague”. Any Gersnetters spot the obvious omission? Three English sides, the Scottish Establishment club, and League of Ireland pub team; all mentioned, but one club deliberated omitted. Plus ca change.

  31. I was reading the Celtic media circus boasting just a few weeks ago that they had sold 50,000+ season tickets. Why would they now need a paying audience? They're not exactly renown for filling their stadium on match days and I can't imagine even they would charge season ticket holders a second time for the same seat. They couldn't have been bullshitting about season ticket sales, could they?
