Hardly last resort and shows fickleness of us football fans. Borna took time to settle at Rangers but has shown both in Europe and domestically that he can play a hige part in our success. Remember this was the man that waded into a mass brawl wearing flip-flops and offered out an entirr away support - hardly actions of a shitbag. He has certainly lost form and confidence and as said above, this might be his struggle with a persistent injury. Hopefully the medical and management team can get Borna back to player he was last season.4 points

He was excellent at taking the ball in situations where he had 2-3 players around him and keeping possession for us, holding the ball up allowing others to get into position which was critical.4 points

We do get country coefficient points for individual results, it is only club coefficient points that are awarded only for progressing to the next round. We got 0.4 points for Scotland for the win in Germany and 0.2 for the draw last night. Serbia are behind us and still have Red Star and Partizan competing. They get 0.5 points for a win because they have fewer teams competing in Europe so their points aren't diluted as much as ours. This blasted Conference League is going to sink Scotland's coefficient.4 points

The coefficient system for those playoff rounds is contrived even by UEFA standards. No points awarded for the actual results, but we are guaranteed a bonus point for reaching the last 16 proper. We're currently sitting on 9 for the campaign.4 points

Deep depression at half time, I could not see how we could change it? We could not retain possession, blind clearances from our box had no depth, we were failing to turn Dortmund, .......... etc. It was a procession towards our goal. Bassey's move to left back gave us an out ball. He takes it in, a couple of give and goes and your fifty yards up the park. Further, he is quite cute at winning free kicks. As soon as Alfie and Kent had the ball, Dortmund were turning. Even the Subway Loyal stayed to the end last night and joined in the post match celebrations.4 points

Breaking (from unimpeachable sources): Following ignominious dismissal from three (3Nr) European competitions on the spin, rasellik will now drop into the revived, renewed, refreshed and regenerated Jeux Sans Frontieres, or It's a Knockout, if you prefer, a show for which they will be seeded. This is UEFA pilot project to reward consistent, dismal, failure among clubs with an inflated sense of their own importance, and misunderstanding of their place in the great scheme of things. The competition will be broadcast exclusively by Moldovan TV. Be sure to tune in.4 points

As delighted as I am at the result, I'm even more delighted for the young fans in our midst who get to savour what a Rangers team is capable of and what a European night at Ibrox looks like. It's been a slog since 2012 but our record in Europe over the past few years has been sensational. Rangers, are not to be trifled with in Europe. Tonight will live long in the memory.4 points

I'm delighted with GVB and the management team above all. At half time I said on here that we need to make a big change because this isn't working, they are going to score again. The first half was similar to Parkhead, the goals were inevitable because they were getting straight through us and had loads of space in the final third. The system simply wasn't working. In fact, the only criticism I have is do we really have to wait till half time to make the change that clearly needs made? Celtic was the same, we waited till the game was out of sight. In any case, GVB's "plan C" was brilliant and it is great to have a manager who is flexible enough to change system mid-game. He deserves all the praise and it's given me hope that he has what it takes to bring the title home.3 points

The German TV commentators / experts were rather complimentary to us as a team and not least Gio`s tactical switch at half time to three at the back. We weren`t really able to cope with Dortmund in the first half, but made a sound tactical switch and fought as a team. Likewise, complimentary to how we fought back over the years, how the support stayed with the club through thick and thin and how we were rewarded with our loyalty with such a fine display against - on paper - far better teams. The "atmosphere is immense and very fitting to this team and club".3 points

Well it’s primarily the rest of the league’s fault rather than Celtic. We are a 2-team league but we have 3 passengers as far as the coefficient is concerned, the conference league gives our rivals a shot in the arm because they have stronger teams finishing 3rd-5th.2 points

One afterthought ... in the highlights I saw that Aribo had a hand in both goals, first setting up Kent and then Bassey. But truth be told, I hardly noted him or his presence in the game and wondered whether changing him for e.g. Sakala energy might be a good idea in the second half. Dunno how it looked in the stadium.2 points

I thought the decision to bring on Kamara when he did was a good move by GvB. What I didn't expect was Kamara being half a yard slow in everything he did. It can be hard to come on and pick up the pace of the game but it seems to me there something not quite right with Kamara and it's been like that off and on all season. Hopefully the coaching staff can bring him back to the level of performance we expect from one of our best players.2 points

Generally, as was the case last week, most agreed that Dortmund are playing well below their best, especially in defence. While their strikeforce can harm anyone, they are leaking goals for fun and this has not been adressed all season. There usually is a certain arrogance on display - bred from years of football dominance on an international level (and who would doubt that) - and most Dortmund-minded reports and player comments lamented their errors more than praising our outstanding performance. That said, like I told you before, the RTL guys commentating on the live game last night were rather neutral, dissecting Dortmund abilities and errors while also giving praise to our team, who on paper should have been food and drink to a side of Dortmund`s level but simply wasn`t. Be it player performance s or tactical changes ... we got a lot of praise. Not to mention the atmosphere ...2 points

Well said. The wounds heal a little more with nights like that. Especially when our rivals are getting humped by a fishing collective in Norway.2 points

As i said yesterday, he wasn`t getting any real help from the VAR pictures, since he didn`t get the view from behind. Can see it here ... 7.00 mins in and the commentators say that the ref didn`t see the revealing angle. https://streamable.com/a7q6432 points

Completely devoid of confidence so, for the moment, Bassey starts ahead of him at left back if Helander/Balogun stay fit.2 points
-
I went for Bassey as well, he's really turning into a player for us. He has great feet for a big man and great strength too. I'm beginning to think left back is the better position for him than CB, though weve probably not seen enough of him to know. There were many outstanding candidates though. Morelos could also have got MOTM his strength holding the ball up was excellent and he did really well for the goal that was wrongly disallowed by VAR.2 points

Great performance from the team last night. A real game of two halves. First half we were not really in the game, done well to win the penalty a great piece of play by Kent who was brilliant over the 2 legs. But couldn't really get a hold of the ball and when BVB scored their second i was starting to fear the worst. Credit to the manager they changed the system at half time and it killed any attacking threat Dortmund had, there was just no space for them. Tav back to his terrific best last night, the second goal in particular started with a long ball to him, he had no right to bring it down and control it but he did and the rest is history. Those two legs are an indicator of what this team is capable of, similar to last seasons relentless form and highlights to me how some of this squad could be better focused on domestic competition. This BVB side are no mugs, packed full of 30 million players and one of the worlds top young players in Bellingham. he was superb over the two legs and I wouldn't be surprised to see him move to a top club in the summer for big, big money. But compare the performances of Malen to Morelos or Brandt to Kent and you can see the quality we have in our team. Enjoy the night and on to 3 points on Sunday.2 points

Just rewatched the match and confused why Borna received so many negative comments....would like someone to tell me what his failings were last night?1 point

I think he is a top-quality left back, among the best in Europe when fully on top of his game, but is suffering from a combination of loss of form/confidence and speculation about his future. I have no doubt he can go on to show us what a top quality player he is again, and needs some help and coaching to get him back to that level. Thankfully we have cover in Bassey who was excellent in a big game last night.1 point

... how did Mats Hummels get in there? Wasn`t he at fault for a couple if not more goals over the two games?1 point

Hard to disagree with any of the candidates in this thread. Quite a few came to the fore in he second half after Gio's tactical switch, namely Kent, Morelos, Bassey & Balogun. Must make mention of Aribo's 5 clearing headers from corners in the period when we were really under the German cosh. Great defensive work. Poor guy looks worn out though, badly needing a rest imo. In summary, it has to be the captain. Sometimes pilloried but never hides. Showed his true qualities and led by example with 2 fantastic goals. Tavernier for me!1 point

He easily could have but it was always going to be Tavernier. Rather than his individual performance, what I saw was Lundstrum's partnership with Jack and the sheer workload they got through covering spaces. It's not just what they do with the ball that wins games and our defensive midfield is like night and day compared with the final days under Gerrard.1 point
-
Lundstrum a tad unlucky not to make your list of standouts but very much agree with this.1 point
-
Once again our new midfield partnership got through an absolute storm of work and that was no small contribution from McGregor either. In fact it would be a lot quicker to note who didn't shine last night but the standouts were surely Balogun, Bassey, Kent, Morelos and Tavernier. It would be wrong to opt for anyone but the captain as MOTM on this occasion. That was real leadership last night. And what a night it was.1 point

Oh, no. Red Star Belgrade. That's winnable. Don't give me hope...1 point

I am not a member of the subway loyal and stay to the end in ALL games,as I did last night.Must admit that I only held back for a couple of minutes though and was delighted to more or less get straight on to subway when I got there. Glad that was the case as I am not getting any younger and a long stand in in a queue would have been hard after being on my feet for whole game. What a game and atmosphere a night to remember.1 point

Spartak. Good chance of winning. Good chance we get a by. Certainly they won't play at home and may well be rusty as well.1 point

I would love to see what the ref has to say about the other angles he wasn't shown. He is a good ref and had a good game and may well consider that a foul regardless. there were people still saying it wasn't a handball V utd for example. We as fans don't know football as well as we think. You see people moaning about VAR offsides that are offside all the time. Because its close or whatever.1 point

I love the day of a Europa league knockout draw. Hoping for Galatasaray or Spartak Moscow. Both languishing way down their domestic tables, don’t know how they’ve gone this far.1 point

The one thing they did do was set a record---THE FIRST TEAM TO BE KNOCKED OUT OF THREE EURO TOURNAMENTS IN ONE SEASON🧡1 point

They reviewed it a few times on German TV and from most angles it looked like a foul by Morelos (hence the German coach went bananas on the sidelines). Only the slow-mo from behind was really conclusive and I think the ref never saw it. When seeing that, the German TV guys more or less agreed that Dortmund was let off the hook here.1 point
