  1. I wouldn't hold the level he plays at against the guy, But it rarely works out a second time, even less so when the first time wasn't up to much.

  3. The Spectator magazine is specifically asking, 'why won't Humza Yousaf condemn Celtic fans'? The article reports the incidents and arrests made on Saturday afternoon/evening in the Trongate. It quotes Glasgow Central MP, Alison Thewless demanding Celtic should foot the bill for the costs of the disorder. Further, the piece points out Humza has not been slow in the past in condemning Rangers supporters. His social media comments on Rangers supporters celebrating their 55th title win were, "disgraceful scenes laced with thuggery". It also mentions Humza as Justice Minister commenting upon a clearly doctored video, purporting to show several of Rangers RC players indulging in singing ant-RC songs in the Club's Members Lounge. Humza demanded Police action and for Rangers to sack those involved. Police Scotland agreed the video had been, "edited to include sectarian singing". Humza refused to back down. The article says, "Humza's refusal to comment is not a good look". The article omits his apology as Justice Minister when six fellow Sellik fans were arrested, charged and, appeared in court facing accusations of hanging two effigies replete in Rangers scarf and orange order accoutrement from the North Stand roof. Hands bound behind their backs, blindfolded and, twisting in the breeze for over an hour above several dozen flags proclaiming, "Kill all H-u-ns". All evidence had been deliberately disappeared from the Procurator Fiscal's Office Glasgow in between the groupings first and second appearances in court. Humza promised a full investigation and a published report. Six years on and it looks like the MV Glen Sannox will be sailing before the report sees the light of day.

  4. Its no surprise that two clubs who have been praised for their youth products over last few years have gone down, i.e. Leicester and Soton. You can't just survive by selling your biggest assets, you need a mix. Brighton would do well to learn.

  6. Dujon Sterling Almost as keen as mustard. Possibly named after a Windies Wicketkeeper from the 80s, which might have helped if he was a goalie.

  7. For a lot of players there's financial incentive in making international squads. Not only from whatever the SFA pays them but from personal sponsors and also from their club contracts. Often a player's contract will have levels (games played/cups won/European qualification etc) and making international squads is often one of them. A player who is a current full international also has a higher value than one that isn't, even if it's for a 'poorer' footballing nation like Scotland. International football is seen as a higher level of competition than domestic league football and enhances a player's transfer and salary value.* I can understand why we're nervous about two players with poor injury records playing more football when we'd prefer them to rest. I suspect both quite like playing international football, it's a different type of challenge for a player. Whatever your views on Steve Clark he's done well with Scotland and we've a reasonable chance of qualifying for a tournament, something almost every professional would like to be part of. *Some 20 or so years ago there was a scandal in Brazil when it was discovered their national team manager was getting paid by agents to give random players one cap. These were players who would normally be nowhere near the Brazil squad. These agents were then able to tout their player to European clubs as a 'Brazilian international' and command a larger fee and salary for an often very average player. One team who fell for this were from Glasgow, they bought a Brazilian international centre half to some fanfare. It turned out he was the most aptly named player of all time - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Scheidt

  8. We earn more points for a win than Real Madrid, at least we have over the past 5 years. The points are based on how many teams are in Europe from your country. That’s why going from 4 to 5 teams in Europe has been bad for us. It has diluted our points further. Scotland’s current position in the rankings is unsustainable and we’ll slide down the rankings pretty quickly now.

  10. The Nationalist website, 'Bella Caledonia' is providing proof that control over the narrative is being contested. It has rushed this evening to reinforce the 2016 mantra, 'Hibs fans entered the Hampden pitch to celebrate, the Rangers supporters came on to fight'. We can see the comfort being derived because Bella Caledonia is under the iron fist of deranged Hibee bigot, Mike Small. Tonight, Mike is adamant that false equivalence abounds, "Celtic fans were celebrating at the Tron whereas Rangers fans were attacking the Police and fighting each other all over Glasgow in 2021". Of course, Mike Small deliberately fail fails to make mention of the pro-Palestinian demonstration that took place in George Square, the day before Rangers clinched the title. Mike was in attendance at George Square that day, during lockdown. I wonder if Mike trampled any flower beds in the square that day or, climbed upon any of the benches? Mike believes CalMac Ferries are better equipped with painted on windows and cardboard funnels. Controversially, Mike thinks Nicola's boaby is better tasting than Humza's.

  12. The players always look like they love playing for Scotland, and I'm always proud to see them pull on the Jersey. I'm not a huge fan of Clarke or the SFA, but the players ain't there to represent the SFA, same as our players aren't playing for Dave King, or anyone else on our board.

  14. Think Sterling will be a "Bassey" type signing. Will offer cover at RB and CB - looks like we'll be going to a back 3 - Sterling, Goldson and Soutar with Tav and Ridvan as wing backs.

  15. Aye that's fair, the only reason I thought Raskin might've been Wilsons is because of his love affair with Belgian football.

  16. Beale spoke a few times about how the club including him spotted Raskin when we played liege a few years back. 💯 down to Beale and nothing to do with Wilson who it will probably reveal in time was a useless imposter. The fact he has been gone 5 mins and we’ve got 2 signings announced and Butland supposedly on the way before the window opens speaks volumes for me.

  18. Jeff Dujon was also a handy batter, batsperson batsman though he got out in a Lord’s Test after being distracted by pigeons at short leg. Wasn’t there a pigeon at Ibrox used to fly about during the game? Wouldn’t want it distracting Sterling from his defensive duties.

  22. Doesnt work like that. They still have to report and the Scotland medical staff determine if they are injured or not. Only way to avoid it would be to make themselves unavailable for selection

  24. I know of at least one senior ex Rangers player who played alongside Windass for us... who when asked about Windass simply said.... "He is the type of player that will get managers the sack"....

  26. There is a rumour that Beale wants to use him as one of six number tens next year. Nobody knows how he will perform when "utilized" in this way ... yet.

  27. Josh Windass ... I seem to remember that we "utilized" him in a wide-left role more often than not. Now 29, he's played 42 games for the Owls this season, 18 of which as centre-forward (9 goals, 5 assists), 13 as attacking midfielder (5 goals, 1 assists), the rest elsewhere on the left or right (2 goals, 1 assist). His overall stats show that he's been an attacking midfielder more often than not, and in 132 games as such, scored a decent enough 40 goals and 23 assists. I know that people want us to see big names arrive, entertainers and skill-ladden folk. At the end of the day, we first and foremost need to get people who do the job at home, who comfortable get us over the line against the likes of St. Johnstone, Hibs, or Motherwell. The last three or four seasons, we had neat people, who were essentially only able to drag us over the line in these games, if at all. Whatever happens in Europe is fine, but we constantly failed to build a team for the home lessons. And if we can snatch a freebie called Josh Windass to do this, so be it. After all, it's been some time since he last pulled on a blue jersey in Glasgow.

  28. The chart you've just shared, ranks Rangers 15th, in share of points won, so if you take away the points scored, I would agree with you. However, the chart in the OP is a direct comparison of the teams on the list, as it is ranked by points scored (contributing to the country ranking), so the question as to why we would be ahead of Real Madrid on 'points scored' is valid. I have no idea.

  35. I think the national teams would take them in and do there own fitness tests these days, or at least that's what I've read/heard in passing. Ryan Jack would prolong his career by a few years if he retired from intl duty. Examples being Scholes and Milner for England, both retired around 30 and kept playing at the top of the Premier League past 35. I think if it was 10 years ago he would but considering how it would be difficult for Scotland to not qualify for major tournaments with the nations league and tournament expansions he probably wants to be part of this renaissance for his country. Can't say I blame him.

  38. I questioned the signing of John Soutter due to his injury record and me not thinking him to be good enough which was backed up by his sloppy pass back at parkhead. Since then he has played extremely well and Saturdays performance is worthy of my motm vote.
