Clement refuted that Souness said that. He said it is nothing but rumours. I think sometimes the Rangers fans are our own worst enemy and look for the negative in everything. Successive Rangers boards have made some dreadful decisions over the last decade but now they have appointed a decent manager we need to do our bit.5 points

God save us from the negativity of people trying to drag us backwards when we're starting to move forwards. I mean, what exactly is the point of that post? Graeme Souness having a role at Rangers isn't about his opinion of Frank Lampard or anyone else. It's about him making a contribution to our club.5 points

I didnt want Lampard either but to suggest he has continuously failed is an over-reach. He did well with Derby and was unlucky to not get promoted - then in his first stint at Chelsea he actually did very well whilstthe club were under transfer embargo. He hasnt "continuously failed. But certainly not won anything or a success in his 2nd Chelsea stint4 points

I think having a football consultant no matter how good they may be running their mouth off on Talksport about all our business is stupid.4 points

I don't mind having Souness around as an ambassador. But as a football consultant? No. He's a dinosaur. He's actually a dinosaur in punditry, never mind actual footballing matters.4 points

Never understood how so many fans think MacGregor is the best keeper we've ever had. Surely must be the younger supporters because to me he is 4th at best. A long, long way behind Goram and Woods and still a good bit behind Klos.3 points

Superb answer to the pathetic Lampard question.3 points

I am reminded of a story my Old Man used to relate. He was attending a fund raiser in the Kenilworth Hotel for (Masonic) Lodge Shalom in the late 60s. Mike Winters was in attendance being a prominent British Jew. Jack House was the speaker and he told of Mike and Bernie Winters introduction to Glasgow theatre. It was a second house at the notorious Empire in 1960. They were the stars of the show and introduced as the toast of London. Mike Winters strolled on to the stage and told several jokes - no reaction. He picked up his clarinet(he was a product of the London Royal Conservatoire) and played an intricate medley - no reaction. Panic levels rising and Bernie appeared flashing his lugubrious teeth - there was a reaction as a member of the audience bawled, "aw fcuk ah hope there's only two of them"? Apparently, Mike Winters laughed as loudly as everyone else in the Kenilworth audience.3 points

I agree. I wish that those who used Lammers and Dessers as a way to get at Beale would now give support to the two of them. It helps no one to constantly criticise our own players.2 points

Tamundo might have looked like a bit of a better player recently but he’s also a crock and barely ever fit, much like half of our squad.2 points

Aberdeen 2 PAOK 3. The Dandies were leading 2-zip with twenty minutes left on the clock. The Ref' denies the Dons a clear penalty too. Anyways, the Greeks bring it back to 2--2 and in the final action of five minutes added on, he awards PAOK a penalty. The conversion is literally the last kick of the ball. It was robbery, a genuine Greek tragedy and, fcuking marvellous.2 points

Avoiding the ball is his best attribute. It's when he gets the ball that it all goes to shit.2 points

First half? 13 to our 1. Overall 16 to our 12. Both sides had 4 shots on target.2 points

If there was ever anything in this, the attraction of joining the Rooney revolution must be fading fast.2 points

There's a player in Lammers, I don't have the same belief in Dessers, hope I'm wrong. Sima and Danilo are quite exciting, get Matondo back fit too, could be a different outlook altogether.2 points

RANGERS are disappointed to have learned today our fixture with Motherwell, originally scheduled for December 23, has been moved to Christmas Eve, December 24. Full statement below https://www.rangers.co.uk/article/club-statement-motherwell-a/2BjhcwY3dWe3Vctj6mQ5A51 point

Well, It was fifty years past and we travelled to Methil to play against a stuffy East Fife side in Christmas week. The snow fell heavily and the festive Bears began: "Parlane, Parlane, born is the King of Ibrox Park". We won four nil. Christmas Eve at Fir Park, I can foresee the Union Bears imbued with jingled spirits beginning: "Dessers, Dessers, born is the King of Ibrox Park". We will win four nil. Festive fantasy can be a most elastic medium.1 point

Just wanted to add a wee comment about the opposition last night. Despite us playing ourselves into trouble a few times, I thought Sparta were half decent and will present a tough match at Ibrox IMO. It's also worth noting that they average 2.5 goals per game in the Czech league and did hammer Dinamo Zagreb 4-1 at home in the play offs. I still think we can beat them but it won't be easy. Oh and that lad Birmančević looked decent. I was wondering where I had seen him before? Some digging and later I discovered the Serbian played for Malmo when the beat us at Ibrox. He's currently a Toulouse player on loan at Sparta.1 point

Has anyone actually said he would be a football consultant? This is the worst bit of pointless gossip since Jack Butland joined Birmingham City.1 point
-
Clement refuted Souness said what? He's directly quoted saying this on the radio: “There were two outstanding candidates; Frank Lampard and Philippe. The final say wasn’t with me. “For me, Frank had the edge because of this; Frank, I think, has still got a great deal to offer. Taking the Chelsea job when he did was always going to be very, very difficult. The Everton job is a basket case. And have they improved since Frank left? Not a bit. “So, I wouldn’t be too critical of Frank. The thing that encouraged me about Frank is that he wanted to do it. He doesn’t need the money. He wants to be a successful manager. And he fancied the Rangers job.”1 point

Aye that's fair, although McGregor was a hologram in his last season. What i will say is that the difference between Butland and past Rangers goalies is that he's happy to claim crosses and sweep up outside his area and be good at it too, add in that he's an excellent shot stopper and you've got a modern 'Rangers Goalie'. Butlands distribution can be a bit hit and miss but its not bad per se. That's not just aimed at McGregor either.1 point
-
I might take pelters for this but here goes...Butland was great last night but did he do anything that's not expected from our goalkeeper? The bulk of the shots were close to him or directly at him. If you cast your mind back to the last time we faced Sparta in Prague, Macgregor pulled off a genuine world class save amongst a raft of top class stops in our 1-0 defeat. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Butland is there as he is an assured and commanding figure but I wouldn't expect anything less from a Rangers goalie.1 point
-
He’s done that from time to time. Still an improvement on the old McGregor, though.1 point

Butland for me, the difference between us and a hiding in the first half. Had that early goal went in, I shudder to think what the end result would have been. Really pleased with the result and the way we hung in, fought and scrapped to half time, then the manager got it changed and we were much brighter in the second half. I am much more confident of progress than I was 2 weeks ago.1 point

Czech lassies are pretty good looking, so I often try to imagine that. 😀1 point

I never wanted Dessers in the first place (£5M for a 28-year-old is stupidity), but I'm not going to criticise him when he's here, same with Lammers. Use them properly; use them to their strengths. Dessers is a penalty box striker. Give him chances in the box; he'll put them away. Don't expect him to run the channels and press. Lammers is a pressing forward, with good control, vision and positioning. Put him up-front - width of the goals - with someone to both feed and feed off.1 point
-
Souter for me though a few others had good games too. Was close between Souter and Lima, thought his defensive work was excellent and got forward more in the later parts of the 2nd half.1 point
-
Aye but they could've been 3 or 4-0 up at half-time. We didn't play well defensively, we were lucky.1 point

A lot to process from tonight's performance but ultimately we secured a valuable point at a ground where we have previously known defeat. For me it was a carbon copy of the 21/22 fixture with our goalie having to keep us competitive in the game due to some calamitous defending and poor ball retention. Hopefully we have given ourselves a fighting chance of qualification with back to back home games coming up. Much for Clement to ponder and my hope is that he's learned more from tonight than he did from Saturdays win over Hibs. Onto to Sunday!1 point
-
There is also a player in Dessers. EL Conf League and Dutch League top scorer not so long ago. His finish on Saturday showed that he can score goals if given the opportunity1 point
-
I think the opposite. There's something about Dessers but Lammers is hopeless. All about opinions.1 point

The first half, in and out of possession we were awful. It was another thank God for Jack Butland. The second half, we worked our way into it. Butland got a well deserved rest and their Keeper was busier. The German Referee was appalling. I do not want to stray into hyperbole but, I have never seen such a well choreographed side as Sparta. There were half-a-dozen incidents of players inside their OWN eighteen yard box falling down under the challenge, one hand clutching the alleged impact area whilst the other hand is raised appealing for Referee action.1 point

Why? He explained why he thought Lampard was ideal for us and also praised Clement. He's entitled to an opinion1 point

Given he was apparently backing Lampard I think I can leave his consultancy expertise behind.1 point

Would be great to see Souness back in some sort of ambassador or consultancy role and I'd put him in charge or PR. Let him go after SFA, The Media, referees and the rest of our detractors.1 point

It's time to leave 1991 behind and welcome back such a high-profile advocate of Rangers. He knows which stones our detractors live under.1 point

Im just going to say that isn't necessarily true. Our result against Betis was only a few weeks ago and he changed things there. Whilst we can't say Beale was a good manager, it would also be remiss to be so definitive about a fictitious scenario.1 point

I disagree Frankie. I think that performance showed a sense of unity and togetherness that's been missing IMO.1 point
