  3. Wales are a better side, they’re 20th in the world and we’re 32nd. He played the whole game which is great for him and great for Rangers. Exactly the kind of publicity we need for our players.

  6. I'm sure it was going for number 10 when Smith decided to tell he was leaving at the end of that season.

  7. The SLO has probably had more interaction with disabled fans in the period he's held the post that his predecessor did in his entire tenure. In fact the very first phone call he had to make when he started in his position was to me to arrange for a group of RDSC members attend Auchenhowie to present some POTY awards. He has on occasion sat in with the wheelchair fans in the West Enclosure to see for himself some of the problems we face and is a regular visitor to the wheelchair areas at away grounds. He spent a large part of the Hamilton game in amongst the Rangers wheelchair fans behind the goal as he was aware of a particular set of problems we face in regards to Hamilton.

  8. What other organisation deliberately tries to aggravate and piss off its customer base and subscriber like they do and what national news organisation outside some despotic tyrannical state holds such a large proportion of its national audience in contempt as they do. Breathtaking arrogance. Superb stuff from RFC Erskine. Put them in their place.

  10. We don't have a world class player like Gareth Bale who can make a huge difference. I dont think we have anyone as good as Aaron Ramsay either.

  11. Scotland have better squad depth, but Wales have better individual quality.

  12. I think that's why the past few years have been so difficult in particular for the bears that remember 1986 and the following NIAR years. We were signing some of the best players in the world (Butcher, Woods, Steven, Wilkins, Klos, Laudrup, Gazza, Thern, etc) and now we have players that can't get games for teams we have hardly heard of. I've tried to reset my expectations but find that very hard to do, if not impossible. All I'm asking for is that we uncover one gem of a player that can get us on the edge of our seats, or one strong defender who can lead the team with the character of a Gough/Butcher. Too much to ask for?

  13. Can you imagine the reaction if someone told you we couldn't afford a Swansea player 20 years ago?

  16. Thanks for the reply, Gaffer. 4 is a strange one. I don't remember it too well. I don't recall disliking the football too much, but thinking about it further, some players went off the boil a bit, Mo in particular,, we got knocked out of Europe early and there weren't that many signings to get excited about. Looking through the results, there aren't that many games that stick in the memory...4-2 v Hibs, the new year's day game, the semi-final at Hampden (which I hated until the final whistle went) and the day we won the league, but that's about it. 5 was a fabulous season...perhaps my favourite ever, and I share your feelings on 7 and 8. 9 was good but winning NIAR was a bit anti-climatic. if we had done it at Ibrox as we'd hoped it would have been great but I couldn't get that excited at the win at Tannadice.

  17. 4 and 6 were the hardest going if I remember correctly. 4 was because it was just too easy and although Hateley and McCoist were great to watch, it was always one way traffic in those games. I seem to remember one game where the opposition (can't even remember who it was) didn't even make a single pass in our half of the pitch, never mind a shot at goal. Then 6 was dire because our players were dropping like flies with injuries. I seem to remember that it was the end of this season that Laudrup came in and just as well because there was no style to our play and we had no one worth watching. Laudrup revitalised my interest and will probably always be the best player I've seen at our club. What a player!!! 7 was really good and then 8 with Gazza, but strangely for me, 9 was poor. We got it over the line but it was such an a shame that the mood was dampened a little, mainly I think because we knew Smith was going along with lots of other players.

  18. I have a distinct memory of the, 'Parlane is the King of Ibrox Park' song. It was Christmas week(I think the day before Christmas Eve) during the 72/73 season, and we were due at Bayview. East Fife were stuffy, played the offside trap continually, marshaled by former Ancell Babe starlet, Pat Quinn. We were beginning to put a title run together, and the momentum of defeating the Fifers before facing Ayr United(home), Thistle(away) and then the Yahoos at Ibrox was most necessary. A crowd of over 10,000 crammed into the ground as the snow began to fall, the flakes blocked our view of a slate grey sea. We battered them in the first half, running up a 0-4 lead. Parlane scored the fourth just before half time, and the seasonal melody erupted, 'Parlane, Parlane, born is the King of Ibrox Park'. We finished the festive period with another new song to add to the canon, we defeated the Yahoos at Ibrox with an injury time winner, a back stick header from a ghosting Alfie Conn. Even after Alfie left the club to go to Spurs, 'who put the ball in the Sellik net' was celebrated.

  19. And one from the left field, Which Aberdeen players would make it into our team? As I've shown in another post, Aberdeen are the best in the league at beating the 4th-12th teams. They would be top of the league if games vs the old firm were discounted. And they'd be about 12 points clear of Rangers. So if we have better players, why do their players consistently get better results against the rest of the league? Would Graeme Shinnie be a good signing? Big old fashioned Scott McKenna? This question leads in to whether McInnes should be out of the question as an option for the summer when he clearly has a winning formula in our league. Should the board swallow their pride and try again with him, fixing whatever was the cause of his refusal? For all we know it was our board's fault and not McInnes's.

  20. Yes that would be excellent. You could also do it as an apart interview although that would throw up more editing problems for Big Jaws.

  21. Off the top of my head; Is it time to give 2 up front a real chance? (Morelos, Cummings and Windass rotating as out and out strikers) Who is a creative player we should aim to sign in the summer to help us break down tight defences at home? (No 10 role) Do we need one with Dorrans returning? Where does McCrorie fit in to the starting 11 when he’s back, defence or midfield? Can we sign better than Bates in the summer or is giving him a contract a no brainer?

  25. My question is regarding rest of this season & leading to new appointments,do you think we are doing the right in not disclosing our targets as doing so might only inflate the financial aspect?.

  26. I have two equally important questions:- If you could go back to one match and experience the atmosphere again which would it be? What’s your favourite mythical creature?

  27. What can we, as a support, do to help the performances at Ibrox? Should the club give us a look at new home and away strip options and ask us to decide on our favourite? What can Club1872 do to get more supporters involved/contributing? Could the SLO be more contactable and helpful to certain groups, such as disabled fans or Union Bears?

  28. Suggested questions: - what is our best 11? - if we could only add one top quality player, what is the key position we need to fill/replace? - should we recruit players over 30? If so, have there been examples of success in the past? - If we win the cup, should Murty be the manager? - Now that possession, shots on target, etc are outdated measures of a team's success, what metrics should we use? (I'm sure Rousseau and a few others - including me - will enjoy that one, although not sure if that's subject is an acquired taste) - What is the most important attribute in a manager? - What transfer targets should we have? (Including any rumours) - what is the handball law - exactly (it annoys me that this is misquoted in many games) - why are there exceptions to every rule? - is Club 1872 doing a good job? - what are the big issues that the board needs to address? - if not King, who? - which of our current crop of youngsters can make it in OUR senior team? - based on our current team, what league and in what position would we be in if we played in England? I seem to remember the theme tune to "question of sport" contained the line .... "there are more questions than answers, and the more I find out, the less I know". That definitely applies to me, but I won't be offended if none of these are picked. Either way I can't wait to hear it. Good luck ?
