My guess is they'll stop paying him after a few months and he might even be looking to get out from January.4 points

I’ve waited so long for this day.4 points

Exactly, some of our fans would have a gammon faced fit if we signed Shankland, never mind a fat junior.4 points

As in Pollok and Yoker, teams like that? I doubt it, the days of Junior (few of them are Junior anymore since league reconstruction) clubs developing players is largely gone. Most players come through at senior sides and 'drop down' to that level if it doesn't work out for them further up. To be honest there's little difference in quality in those playing in the West and East Of Scotland League and the Lowland League and Divisions 1 and 2. Player regularly move between them.4 points

Difficult to implement and run a settled, functional footballing infrastructure when you are consistently second in a two horse race. Good ideas and intentions get lost in the fallout. Add the pressure that comes to bear on top of those responsible in the Glasgow goldfish bowl and constant change is inevitable. Individuals and structural. The obvious problem or danger is a two horse race becomes a one horse race. It happened before (2012) and lasted for about 8 years. They continue to operate within a financially viable model. We don't and appear to be front loading once again. If it works, good (but still no viable structure). If it doesn't work, the future ain't bright at Ibrox.3 points

Just a lack of goals over past 2 or 3 seasons worries me. Can only presume we’re after another striker to play thro the middle & Lammers plays in a wide or deeper role2 points

The Turkish clubs properly have a wee man complex with the Scottish league don't they. In fairness it's dire outside the Old Firm but still, the endless links to our players is exhausting.2 points

If you haven't already, please watch the annoucement video, for the first few seconds, I wasn't sure if it was some AI software that was staging the whole thing. After convincing myself it wasn't that, I then had to convince myself there wasn't somebody with a loaded weapon behind the camera2 points

I think it's more joined up than saying it's solely one person or the other. The head scouts (John Park > Mervyn Day | Andreas Fehse) will present a range of options whereby the manager will pick the ones he wants for his style. The Sporting Director will oversee the process and ensure there's a strategy involved (e.g. we're not signing ten 34 year olds) in conjunction with the board (e.g. budget). If there's any issue it will be they that instigate further change (e.g. new scouts/new manager/new SD). For example, whilst I doubt Wilson would be blamed for the purchase of a Matondo; he may seen as responsible for allowing assets like Morelos and Kent to leave for nothing as well as the failure of any given manager.2 points

This just popped up on my feed and thought it was worth posting. Alfie had a lot a critics in Scotland but you can't fault the guy for what he's given back in Colombia. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cs7uJyNrkzn/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==2 points

A DoF should have a big influence on the recruitment strategy. Looking at our signings over the last 6 years (Wilson arrived Oct 2019), I can't see any overriding philosophy. I see a hodgepodge of players, signed by the three different managers over that period, each quite different from the other. We've seen a squad rebuild, transition into first-team players to push to win a title under SG; to youngsters, loans and older players under GvB; to MB signing players that he knows. The profile of MB's signings is better, but the idea of a DoF having a guiding influence is non-existent. I don't think Wilson, or Allen, had as much control as they should have had. What's the profile? Where's the recruitment philosophy? (I've tried to colour code them to show who might have signed each player; some might be wrong.) 18/19 19/20 20/21 21/22 22/23 23/24 Key Arfield Hastie Hagi Sakala Colak Dowell Gerrard McGregor Jones Bassey Lundstram Lawrence Stirling GvB Murphy Davis McLaughlin Bacuna Yilmaz Butland Beale Katic Stewart Defoe Sands Cantwell Club? The good news is that by the end of October no one will need to rely on speculation or funny algorithms. We'll all be able to use our own eyes.1 point

Not sure it’s that expensive, I’d want about that for Sakala if we were selling.1 point

Intrigued to see how this one pans out, technically better than anything we've had upfront in years.1 point

I think he's just not too confident about public speaking.1 point

Another bizarre move (money aside). Managerial career all but over then. If he had any ambition of managing Liverpool i doubt this is the way to do it.1 point

If that's the case then the real problem doesn't lie with either the DoF or the manager. The issue has to be the MD who hasn't ensured there are functionally effective boundaries between the two roles. It's clear to anyone with half an eye that Robertson was a weak character who should never have occupied the MD's chair. What's even more worrying is that the Chairman and his board either couldn't see Robertson's weakness or they were happy with it.1 point

Exactly. I suspect it's actually quite a significant step up.1 point

Obviously Leeds and Burnley weren’t interested after all. Bit of an odd move for him. As someone said it’s defo not a step up.1 point

Sideways step for Kent at best in terms of clubs. Obviously getting more dough where he is going, but I am surprised he didn't end up back down South I don't wish him any harm1 point

I think that's why Wilson ultimately lost his job. He should be telling the manager these players (or at least one of them) should have been sold. Gerrard or whoever else may not have liked it but it's a DoF decision. At the very least, Wilson should have had in place an agreement that the players left as soon as it became obvious they were not delivering success - and by that I mean the SPFL title, not a European run. In his defence here, we still could have won the league in early January 2022 and, by the time, it became obvious we were not, it was too late to move them on as I'd fancy both players wanted to run their contract down by this time last year.1 point

I thought that Arfield and McGregor were announced a few weeks before Gerrard was even rumoured. Murphy was also agreed well before Gerrard.1 point

I think Lammers fits if we're continuing with the 4-3-1-2. We need a pressing forward, which is why we've been playing Matondo, who is not a striker but can use his pace to do a similar job as a pressing forward. I also think Lammers will get goals at our level, but we still need another forward that can be the main goal threat.1 point

think lammers will play wider. Panzo was with Beale at chelsea same as sterling.1 point

Well, there are a number of things that I could recommend but the simplest would just be to use a browser like Brave. Failing that you could add an addblocker to almost any other browser. In my experience a lot of problems are caused by loading adverts.1 point

I am a bit old for this modern stuff but I would say that if a team fails abysmally sure the manager should be sacked but so should the DoF1 point
