  2. Sensitivities. I am in France at the moment, thus listening to the Beeb is confined to the world service. On Sunday last, ra Sellik played their final league fixture of the season against Hearts. There's a trophy to b e presented at the culmination of the game, before kick-off, Hearts provided a guard of honour. Hearts have three strips, a home, an away, and a third. They wore their third kit, an all darkish blue affair. Neither of the other two would have clashed, but they could have provided severe embarrassment to a most sensitive Sellik and their support. Both have the sponsorship across the chest, 'Save the Children'. In a week where the MSM in Scotland finally grew a set and challenged Sellik on their separate entity line, it was felt Hearts providing a guard of honour with Save the Children featuring prominently would be taking the pysh. A senioor Scots club had to wear a third non-sponsorship strip to assuage Sellik. Apparently, this was the talk of Sunday night's Sportswriters bash. It was wondered aloud why so many Hearts supporters inside PQ decided to ignore the happening? Particularly, those on the satirical side of things. A proud sponsor ie 'Save the Children' relegated to save Peter et al, from an awkward and inconvenient situation. I left the UK, just after the last old firm game(I know the term annoys some at PQ). On the Saturday, Shereen Nanjiani presented her ninety minute show and for the first time in four/five weeks, Angela Haggerty was a guest. It was the week of English sides Euro comebacks and the topic was raised. We learned from Angela has no English team, all her love is confined to ra Sellik, and the greatest comeback of all time occurred in Lisbon'67. Angela's disappearance from the show coincided with the IRA's murder of Lyra McKee, a young Journalist from Belfast. Angela's last utterance on the Beeb before popping up on Shereen's; was to demand full prosecution of 'Soldier F', but explained no prosecution of IRA members could take place because as of the Good Friday Agreement, "they are a defunct organisation". Now, we can see why Angela has been missing, awkward! Just like when her co-founder of 'Call it Out' Jeanette Findlay's place of work, Glasgow University received letter bombs from the IRA a couple of months past, Angela is conveniently withdrawn hors de combat. A lot of the nationalist contributors to PQ have a huge problem with Lyra McKee's murder, in fact they refuse to refer to her passing as murder. DrStu' informed us that her classification of death is, 'by crossfire'. I though you needed two sides shooting for such an occurrence? Shona Craven of the National on the Beeb was at pains to describe the poor girl's passing, "we need a new classification". Dr Eamonn O'Neill was adamant, "Lyra was not targeted". Just like old firm becoming an unacceptable term at PQ, 'IRA murder' is also beyond the pale. I will leave it up to Father Edward Magill who conducted Lyra's service at St Anne's in Belfast, "why did it take the murder of a 29 year old girl ......."? If we accept the language of our opponents, then we have already lost the debate.

  4. I've got some sympathy for Clyde on this. Firstly I think we have to accept that child abuse is a very difficult subject to talk about on a sport's programme. Super Scoreboard has a wide audience age wise, that creates problems in subject matter, it's on in the early evening when children could be listening. Personally I'd turn over a programme that was discussing child abuse if my 11 year old was listening. It's not an appropriate subject and it is most certainly not an appropriate programme to be discussing it. Secondly no one on that programme is even remotely qualified to discuss the subject matter. I mean the presenters and guests struggle to say anything vaguely informative on football, what possible insight could they bring to this subject? And a phone-in on it is a horrifying thought. I understand why some people feel there's double standards being displayed. After all no one on Super Scoreboard is an insolvency or tax expert yet they were happy to discuss and comment on that for months on end. However, I think there's a huge difference between spouting ill-informed gibberish about EBTs and spouting it about a paedophile ring. For me the latter is a subject that should only be covered by the 'news' shows. Whilst it concerns a 'sports' club it's not a suitable story for sport journalists to cover. It's news story, it's a big news story, potentially a huge one. A paedophile ring operating inside one of the biggest and most successful sporting institutes in this country, apparently for decades, requires a level of investigation and analysis no sport's programme is capable of providing. I agree with those that have called for a public enquiry, that's not point scoring either. I knew boys who played for Celtic Boys Club, their families were so proud of them. Even as a Rangers supporter you recognised the kudos that came with being able to say you were good enough to play for them. Evil, evil men preyed on young boys, deceived their families, lied and abused their positions and ultimately destroyed the lives of who knows how many people. That shouldn't be allowed to simply be forgotten.

  5. You make good points and you're correct. I don't think there's any need to go through grisly details. I dont think anyone should stumble through details that upset or offend any victims. However, there is a secondary layer that is more suitable for discussion. Concerning the actions of the club, its legal stance and a cover-up. From the top of my head. - Links between board and predators. - Links between predators and outsiders (i.e. Bennell) - Hiring policies. - Comment on celtics own investigation into the boys club in the 80s. - How many people at senior club knew? - Fergus McCanns actions? - Payments from club to 3rd parties. - Public calls from club (and associates) reaching out to victims. - ...those made no mention of police. Was any info ever passed to police? - What did the police know and not act on? - Did celtic contacts victims directly? - How many non-disclosure agreements are out there? - When and how did celtic adopt their first defence strategy? Was this a shared tactic with the CC? - When did separate entity defence appear? - Compare clubs actions with those in England. - Compare Man Cities response with celtics. - Compare case and actions with Penn State. - Discuss whether Penn State precedents and punishments should apply to Celtic? - What options were available to SFA? - What options are available to SFA? - Discuss whether member clubs should meat to discuss celtics behaviour? - Discuss whether celtic scandal has been covered up? And by who. There's plenty scope for open and informed discussion on this. Some of this is documented fact, other points speculation and hearsay. They could get months worth of content out of this and people would want to know about it. They would if it were Rangers. Also, I'm sure Hugh Keevins could give some very accurate answers to many of those questions, if he wanted to. But there's the crux. He doesn't want to. Celtic don't want him to. To have the celtic support, and other supports, discussing that is damaging for them, which is why it is never mentioned. From what I've seen on twitter a lot of celtic fans are genuinely in denial or in the dark about it. The coverage and content for a scandal that size has been extremely limited. There's also some pretty murky stuff going on to cover it up. Accounts popping up and attacking anyone talking about it, including victims. I've seen tims setting up accounts pretending to be Penn State fans. We currently have a group driving the "victims cause" in Hampden and Holyrood that are knowingly excluding victims. That group appears firmly in the "dont blame the club" camp. Call me cynical. But when millions of pound are at stake then anything goes. Including radio stations opting to limit exposure. Clyde SSB, of course, have history with inconsistency. During one of the raging storms on Rangers singing nasty songs, when celtic fans were caught red handed singing sectarian songs, Keevins simply changed the subject. A change of editorial policy so to speak.

  6. OP has been updated a little and squad brought forward to May 2019, with known and possible guys leaving.

  7. A decent enough player, but (and I've been saying this all season, not just since he came back into the side) I see no point in developing someone else's player ahead of our own. Katic and Goldson were brilliant in the euro run, and the big yin has slotted back in again during the run in. All the best, Joe.

  8. Part of the frustration is that the subject is not being properly discussed in the mainstream press and there has been a level of cover-up going on. JohnMc makes an excellent argument for it not being included on SSB, which could be an avenue for discussion, but would more likely end up being point scoring, but Clyde are not offering a more suitable forum either, as far as I'm aware, and are therefore involved in the MSM cover-up.

  9. This is very interesting @JohnMc. I've been a little underwhelmed after the hype, there's no question he had some ropey games. However I'm starting to wonder if I've underrated him because the goals conceded record is so much better than it was. And hey, he's scored only 2 goals less than superstar £12m forward Ryan Kent after all. Let's see you explain that one @Gaffer ?

  10. I was listening to the H&H podcast and for the first time with a Rangers related pod, I turned it off about 20 minutes in. Reason was that an essentially meaningless end of season is I think, very difficult to generate into a vibrant and interesting show. Once the whistle blew for FT, it was close season. I had listened to the full Gersnet live pod (the day after) and that was enough. The takeaway regards to feedback is that going to a Live format (and ready to listen to next morning) is the way to go, rather than publishing on Tuesday morning when many have had their fill. The thing about the Live version that surprises is that there are so few mistakes/silences etc.....Well done !

  11. Nah, you're all wrong so far. POTY is Connor Goldson, the most under-rated player in our side. He's the defensive colossus the side's been built around, that's transformed our 'goals against' column this season. He's had to work with 3 different centre-half partners, yet has maintained a level of consistency that we simply now take for granted. He's been almost ever present, playing 54 matches. His discipline is exceptional, only 10 bookings all season and no red cards, unusual for a centre half in modern football, particularly when playing for Rangers. Most importantly he didn't give the ball away at Parkhead in the last minute for no explicable reason. BTW No Candieas in the poll? His stats are better than Kent's, he just does it with less fuss.

  12. The MSM didn't stop to consider the sensitivity around a massive business going into liquidation, such as creditors awaiting funds, possible job losses etc. Remember McCoist falling out of the Main Stand window on the BBC documentary. Any big business involved in nefarious activities should be subject to press scrutiny. Clyde should just admit that they and their staff are too cowardly and stupid to take this one head on.

  13. It’s the double standards in play that offends from a SSB angle. If it was us in that position, their moral compass would be forgotten to be replaced with calls for us to be thrown out of football for good. And they would be right. A pedo ring found out and covered up, boys club renamed to try to avoid compo claims, threatening behaviour to anyone wanting to discuss it, and lots more are the actions of a club that deserve to be shut down.

  16. It's very inconvenient for me when my opinion is clearly contradicted by the facts @DMAA ?. It's times like these when I'm going to adopt the BBC tactic of not allowing the facts to distort my deeply biased agenda in favour of Kent. And now he's signed on loan for another season, you've got more fan boy stuff to put up with from me. But seriously, I think I've also under rated the impact Goldson has had on the team. Like Ryan Jack, he's another that goes about his business quietly so perhaps doesn't stand out the same as some others. As I said at the start of this thread, isn't it just great we have so many contenders now.

  22. I think Goldson has had an excellent season by and large. He's another player that English teams will be interested in given he's proven his well-being and quality over the course of a long, hard year.

  24. I actually wondered if we missed a trick at times by not having him as the penalty taker. We'd have had a 40-45 goal striker on our hands.

  28. I've voted for Morelos. When he has played well, he's been the most exciting talent we've had for about 15 years. And he has a great scoring record.

  29. Congrats Steve Clarke, a good solid pro at Chelsea with over 400 appearances and has coached a number of clubs gaining important experience along the way with the high points his assistant role at Chelsea under Jose, getting WBA to finish 8th in PL and latterly with Kilmarnock. All in all, I think he deserves the chance.

  30. For me,the POTY isn’t necessarily the player whose personal performances have stood out most but the player whose presence in the team has had the most overall effect on the performance of the whole team in the most games. In my opinion that player has been Ryan Jack.

  31. McGregor . Without doubt the only player that has performed consistently, and to the level that is required at Rangers. He's been an influence in many other ways too. Wee blip at the end there, but he can be forgiven for that.

  32. It's a damned close run thing, between Tavenier and Morelos, who have both been outstanding, for different reasons. Tavenier has been a machine all season long, but Morelos has scored 30 goals, without penalties, and, well, everybody loves a goalscorer. Rangers, as we know, is refereed -and, largely, re-refereed by Mhystic Mheg, and her predecessors- to a standard different to that applied to the other teams of the SPL, or, indeed, of the whole SPFL. In this context, it is noticeable that the "temperamental Latin, from an area notorious for cocaine production, even within the world's largest cocaine producing country", is himself judged by officialdom using a yardstick beyond even that experienced by the rest of the team; and, it goes almost without saying, he is afforded no protection on the pitch. Off the pitch, we have to consider the almost constant, histrionic, vilification he receives from that shallow, partisan, gaggle of mountebanks and mutual masturbators, which masquerades as Scottish fitba' media. So, for his goals, and for the fact that he has continued to score, in the face of officiating from plain bad, at best, to plain biased, at worst, via the merely prejudiced ( influenced by the off field antipathy, and a background noise of hateful hysteria, well beyond fair comment) my vote goes to the Colombian Thunderboots. ,

  33. I think we’re probably on the same wavelength here Buster. However I am not aware of a compensation claim case that has been made. I’m aware of threats to take them to court but those are early positioning statements from P Maguire, Celtic refuse to open a dialogue and no court papers exist. Nothing is happening in a formal legal compensation case therefore BBC have not actually got much to report on regarding a compensation claim. They would point to their Daly work in demonstrating they were generally taking the whole business seriously. Of course Daly could do a lot more now given all the stuff crawling out the woodwork. Even Celtic admit they held an inquiry into the Boys Club but no one such as the BBC have asked to see their papers. It’s very clear BBC Scotland is not applying as much airtime or other media output to this scandal as would be expected and perhaps there are complaints to be raised there but it’s hard to see what the case would be ie specifically what part of the BBC Charter would they be falling foul of. Whether they are deliberately editing in favour of either pre trial compensation position is hard to prove and I would suggest would be a lot of effort in vain and I’m not clear how you would prove the point. Without a whistleblower it’s virtually impossible to validate. A complaint of that nature would be easy to rebut at this stage imo unless you have very clear wordings in output from the BBC (or a whistleblower).
