Sorry mate in professional football you just don't have time to take in all that is around you and organise things before you make a move. Some of these guys run 100mtrs in 12 seconds so they cover 6 to 10 meters in seconds. That is why they train every day so that these things become an automation. For what it is worth I played a reasonable level of amateur football myself for more than 40 years many as defender in all positions and many as the old fashioned sweeper so I have a fair idea how to defend and organise a defence.

Am I the only one that spotted Celtic have spelled Aribo's name wrong in their transfer dossier. They must have gone chasing another "Arribo" and left the real one to us. "Tierney - staying" is the one that cracks me up. How did that one work out?

To me this should be a gimme but I am fed up with all the stop trebles,ten in a row etc.. All I am interested in is us getting back to winning silverware.

If I could pick a time for players to lose concentration it'd be when we're 5 goals ahead in a European double header. A bloke in the pub after the match was having a right moan about our second half performance...and I thought I was a miserable sod!

A second or two could mean 5-15 yards so waiting is not always the answer.

The biggest risk in this situation is the man with the ball and what he can do with it. If you can stop the cross they can have ten players in there. I don't think it is only me you are debating with, I think most agree Katic has to step out to cut off the route to goal

I played across the back four for several years at a low amateur level and your job in this situation is to risk assess and decide where the biggest goal threat is. There was no goal threat here until Katic suddenly leaves a man open inside the box, only the threat of a cross. He didn’t tell anyone to take his man before moving or anything. He ran to block a cross not a goal scoring opportunity. Whatever it is it isn’t “crazy” to see what happened like this I think it’s pretty reasonable and based on my own experience of playing in the position. And Flanagan made a mistake but his mistake only created a dangerous crossing opportunity but not a goalscoring one. It could have developed into one but his mistake didn’t directly cause the goal.

I think you miss the point. Katic could have waited. He didn’t have to rush out immediately. That then gives Goldson and Tav a second or two to pick up the other players. nothing to do with Goldson waiting.

I also voted for Morelos. He was a nightmare for their their defence and took his chance with aplomb.

I went for Alfie, just ahead of Ojo. 2 goals and 1 assist for Alfie, and 1 goal and 2 assists for Ojo. Excellent work between them. Was also impressive performances from Davis, Jack, Goldson, Katic and highlight of the match was Arfield's solo to set up Ojo's goal even though Morelos gets the official assist it wa all about Arfield. Only player I thought was poor was (again) Flanagan. At fault again for the goal (not solely, but mainly), and poor distribution when I was saying for the first 15-20 mins he looked much better, that seemed to be the high point of his performance, but I am nitpicking as I thought everyone did really well and produced solid performances. Bring on Legia!!

We took advantage of the cross border rules on youth development to get him a lot cheaper than his true worth. That's why Bowyer et al were so annoyed. I believe he's on a substantial wage with respect to his value and, if he continues the standard he's contributed so far, then we should be able to make a decent wedge on him.

For me it was Connor Goldson last night. He absolutely strolled through the game and was terrific at the back. Sure, like any player he had one or two dodgy moments but, for me, he dominated at the back and was also superb on the ball once again. Ojo and Jack were also first class but the attacker tired badly after half-time and with Jack also going off, Goldson deserves the award for another top class 90mins.
