  1. Rangers could win 7-0 every week and some of us would still find something to moan about (me included). I think it's a bit of a Scottish trait and although it seems entirely negative, continually looking to improve isn't a bad thing. Kent does a lot of good work and when he's on form, he's terrific. However, there are definitely areas where he could do better.

  2. Comparing periods is very hard. The Rangers sides of the 60s, 70s and early 80s were playing in a league that had some of the best sides in Europe at that time. The calibre of domestic opposition was considerably higher than it is currently. That said, I think this current Rangers side plays the best football I've ever seen a Rangers side play. I never thought I'd see a Rangers team play more pleasing football than the one Advocaat put together in his first couple of seasons, but I now think this current side is even more attractive. Now, that's not say this team is 'better', in fact I doubt it is, that side contained Numan, Porrini, Gio, Albertz, Kanchelskis and of course Barry Ferguson, all exceptional players. Our sides of the late 60s and early 70s reached 2 European finals, winning one, you could argue that was our best ever side, even though they weren't able to win the league. Anyway, Gerrard can only build a side to beat what's in front of him, and he's doing that with some aplomb just now.

  3. We have to call this out for what it is: chicanery. A quasi-judicial system has been subverted by deceit, by subterfuge, to benefit the interests of one of the subscribers to that system, and to disbenefit the others, in particular, one other. However, it is not "consistency" we require: the referees, the other officials, and the disciplinary process in toto, have all been consistent: decisions have been consistently bad, consistently slanted, and consistently inexplicable to the rational man on the Cessnock Subway. What we need are decisions which are fair, equitable, unbiased. The Trials by Sportscene/Sportsound staff, or by certain SKY or BT employees, are a pernicious plague. Few of these characters are fair, equitable, or unbiased, yet they clearly have influence on the post match, quasi-judicial, disciplinary process: in prosecution, verdict, and sentencing. Throw in the written media and it seems that no player is likely to receive an objective assessment; often he is found either guilty, or innocent, beforehand; consequentially, and equally frequently, this judgement is rubber stamped by the mysterious panel. The whole, strange decision making process is far from fair, or equitable, or free of bias, and apparently depends more upon which team the accused represents than on any other criterion.

  4. Since Wilton, over 100 years ago, Gerrard holds the record for the longest time as Rangers manager with no trophy successes. Just saying............

  5. I think the Advocaat was more consistently exceptional through a game with the ball but there is no doubt this current team at it's best is even better to watch. Advoaat's brillance was a bit short lived and couldn't ultimately handle Oneils cluggers. In the end Eck did better with Advocaats players in a lot of ways.

  6. we can hardly demand consistency and expect this to go ignored. Truth is while there was no malice in this it was reckless and dangerous. parity has to start somewhere. Ajeti dived if he is banned that is right. Browns elbow wasn't a red but at least was looked at. truth is though this whole thing should be scrapped as it only applies to rangers and celtc games really and always has. no one else watches the other games.

  7. It's over forty-five years since I sat in a Science classroom, but I remember nature hates a vacuum. It appears certain members of Sportscene/Sportsound and Sky Sports Scots regulars have filled the vacuum. Seriously, our Club should suggest Michael Stewart Referees our games on the pitch. Why wait for the deliberation and the complexities of TV schedules?

  8. I agree on both counts. It could have been, should have been a red card. Further, Rangers games are being re-Refereed.

  9. Same as the Alfredo incident - and as the Manager says, the referee was 5 yards away, sees the incident and gives a yellow card. I agree it could have been a red and we would have had no real complaint, but that was the on field decision and we can't be re-reffing games all the time. Its beyond a joke

  10. You got that right Gonzo. There are however two sides to this. It's one thing to have a negative opinion of a player like Ryan Kent (although God knows why). It's another thing altogether to continually express that opinion for no practical purpose other than to indulge one's own ill-will towards the player. When this is done repeatedly, it goes beyond simply expressing an opinion, it becomes an exercise in trying to sell that opinion. As a supporter, that's wholly acceptable when it's a positive opinion. When the opinion is negative, it simply becomes destructive. Sometimes the denial of this is as good a guide as any to the truth of it. Personally, I'm in footballing heaven right now. The journey has been hugely painful for me and these wonderful days are healing a lot of hurt. Why any Rangers supporter would prefer to wallow in negativity at this time is beyond me.

  11. It is a fair point. Winning games is great but without trophies a bit pointless.

  12. A piece from today's Times, below. At face value, it seems that Whitehouse wants a full investigation into the circumstances of his arrest and prosecution. He wants to be able to give evidence to any such inquiry, fully, 'without fear or favour', and without threat of prosecution. (All of which makes a change in Nikla Ceausescu's Scotland.) This could be seen as a move to prevent any Inquiry shutting out vital evidence, on legal technicality. Of course, it assumes that there will such a probe. Speaking from the Lisbon Lions' stand, Gerry Moynihan, QC, attempted to block this by arguing that the civil case (which the Lord Advocate conceded, in full) was settled on the basis that Messrs Whitehouse and Clark had accepted that there was 'no criminality' in the malicious prosecution. Even to a layperson, this does not seem to hold water: an Independent Inquiry might well find that there was criminal intent, or criminal negligence, the agreement between the LA and Whitehouse/Clark being one based on instrumentality, to expedite an apology and a financial settlement. But, hey, let's not hold our breaths. Ex-administrator David Whitehouse wants to share Rangers case files James Mulholland Friday February 05 2021, 12.01am, The Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/ex-administrator-david-whitehouse-wants-to-share-rangers-case-files-5zmlq2vht A former administrator who sued prosecutors over a “malicious” Rangers fraud investigation has urged judges to let him pass key documents on to any future investigation. Lawyers acting for David Whitehouse, the insolvency expert who was arrested after the deal to buy Rangers out of administration, said there was “every possibility” of a public inquiry after his multimillion-pound civil claim against the Crown and Police Scotland. Whitehouse, one of several executives targeted in a fraud investigation after the Rangers deal nearly ten years ago, has previously described his treatment as “utterly scandalous”. The Court of Session was told yesterday that Whitehouse needed a judge’s permission to pass on information he had gleaned from the civil case to any future investigation. Last year Whitehouse and Paul Clark, his colleague, began a £20.8 million compensation claim against the police and prosecutors over their arrests in an “unlawful” criminal investigation at the Glasgow club. They settled the action for an undisclosed sum. Lawyers acting for the Crown previously admitted that the men were the subject of a “malicious” prosecution. Roddy Dunlop, QC, for Whitehouse, who appeared in court alongside Gerry Moynihan, QC, for the Crown, said that his client believed he could help highlight shortcomings in the prosecution. He told the judge that many commentators had said it was “unimaginable in modern-day Scotland that we could have a prosecution that was both without probable cause and malicious and yet this is exactly what we have here. Mr Whitehouse frankly wants to know why that happened.” He added: “If there is an inquiry, Mr Whitehouse wants to participate fully in that. If there’s not, in any event Mr Whitehouse wants the ability to bring his concerns to the appropriate authorities by way of complaint and demand for investigation into how on earth this happened and who is responsible for it. “In order that he may do that he wants to be able to use the documents he has had sight of and what he doesn’t want to do is find himself in contempt of court in so doing.” Whitehouse and Clark’s actions have stemmed from their alleged treatment by the police and prosecution authorities. The men were appointed administrators of Rangers in February 2012. The club was liquidated in October 2012 and they left their positions. Police then arrested Whitehouse and charged him with offences relating to the takeover of Rangers in 2011 by Craig Whyte, a businessman. The charges were later dropped. Yesterday Moynihan told the court that the lord advocate was committed to properly investigating any claims of wrongdoing but that Whitehouse’s legal action had been concluded on the basis that he accepted there had been no criminality on the part of prosecutors. Moynihan added: “I had understood from [Dunlop] that there was to be no discussion today of any of the merits of this and I’m somewhat disappointed that the dean of faculty [Dunlop] has seen fit to repeat the coverage in the media and to refer to that.” Moynihan said that the information given to Whitehouse came from witness statements and was provided to him on the basis of the civil action. Moynihan said he needed time to speak to the people who gave the statements to see if they objected to Whitehouse’s request to pass the information on. Lord Tyre granted Moynihan 28 days to formulate answers to the documents lodged by Whitehouse and ordered the lord advocate to pay Whitehouse’s legal costs dating from August last year.

  13. Its getting sensational. This season alone is a stunning record and almost going under the radar on a few levels. But its been coming, from day 1 you could see what he was building, its all about holding it together for a few years now. In Europe to go from losing in Luxembourg to now being disappointed with drawing with Benfica is a statement. This is a Benfica team who are Champions League Material and Arsenal werent pleased with drawing them next. Only Leverkusen have been a level above and they are a very good team.

  16. I thought retrospective action could only be taken if the ref hadn't seen an incident. If he's seen it (and acted on it) then it's out of scope. Is this not why McGregor wasn't charged in the Hibs game?

  20. Between Aribo and Hagi for me. I thought Aribo was probably the most creative player and was very important in what we did well. I thought Jack was good throughout too. Ultimately it goes to Hagi though for an outstanding goal in a game that might have otherwise ended goalless.

  21. Indeed, Jim Denny was shot by the Yahoos during a reserve game at ra Piggery. I remember it was reported in the Rangers News. Jim had a spectacular debut in the 1971 Scottish Cup final replay. He debutised for Sandy Jardine and played very well. He made another several dozen appearances over the next several years without reaching those heights. In the Rangers - Player by Player book, Jim's biog' describes him as, "a player of medium height, medium pace, and medium ability". I suspect even Jim would be embarrassed by such over reaching praise? I would have happily shot Ally Scott.

  23. You actually DO pick on players, whether for fun or not. You give certain players more leeway than you give Kent. Kent has become this team's version of your Kyle Hutton. You/we can lament performances all we like - but what we don't know is the role that is being asked of them from the management team - and I will give an example. I remember being at Ibrox a couple of seasons ago and Rangers were down to 10 men, they also were losing 2-1 (I think, might have been 3-1) and @Rousseau favorite player, Josh Windass was on the halfway line whilst the opponent (think it was Hibs) were attacking.... a few guys in front of me started screaming at Windass to get back and help out and calling him a lazy bastard (and that was one of the more pleasant terms)….. what they didn't notice (because they were ball-watching - I was watching more than just the ball at the time) was that Windass actually DID make a move to assist defensively.... and Caixinha shouted to him from the touchline to NOT go back and help out - Caixinha specifically told Windass to stay on the halfway line and wide, presumably for a quick break should the defence clear. But all those fans were adamant he was being a lazy bastard, which on that occasion was absolute nonsense. I have yet to see anyone on here who "sees no fault in Kent's performances". Jones sealed his own fate with stupidity (as well as other things which I have heard from impeccable sources), Middleton couldn't get in Hibs team so not sure how he would get into ours, and Barker doesn't offer what Kent does (in the management team's mind). I personally find it a bit churlish that any of us, me included, are complaining about players being kept on the pitch in a game in which we win, during a season in which we have won 100% of our home games in the league, in a season where we are undefeated in the league.... maybe it is just me, but I trust this management team to pick the players who will get the job done - and get the job done they have. What would you, or any of us, be saying had he brought Kent off and we conceded a late goal ? Am I the only one who remembers SG made a late sub at Motherwell a couple of years ago when we were winning 4-3 (or something such like) and the player he brought on gave away an equalizer ? We won the game last night which means team selection, tactics, formation worked. Not sure why we need to find a boo boy when we win and are sitting at the top of the league by miles.

  25. I’ve never known anything like Gerrard’s record in a single season from Mr Struth onwards. Fair enough, he hasn’t had to face the calibre of the stunning Hibs and Hearts teams that Struth and Symon had to contend with. If he stays it will be interesting to see if he can match their extended records.

  26. I’m always cynical about comparing one manager’s record against another at any club what makes Gerarrd’s record outstanding is he virtually had to build a team from scratch when he arrived. Previous Rangers managers didn’t always have that problem. Only Jack, Morelos & Tav survived from the previous 2 managers. And of those Jack & Morelos had been less than a year at Rangers

  28. Defoe is currently injured. In terms of the Euro squad, we have Morelos, Roofe and Itten that, rightly or wrongly, are ahead of him so we need to balance out the rest of the players picked, especially give we struggle to satisfy the homegrown/club-trained numbers.

  30. Pretty bloody good mate. 1 goal conceded in 12 home league games, winning the lot of them. I suspect that’s never been done before, and we know if it was the bheasts on such a run, there would be reams of articles letting us know just how wonderful and record breaking the run is. All we get is an acknowledgment that the bheasts have imploded and blown “the 10” which is funny as I don’t recall them “winning” “the 9”. Must have missed that game, who scored the winner? There will soon be muttering about us going unbeaten throughout the campaign, which will be completely downplayed and we will be told it’s not a patch on Brenda’s team of superheros and that none of our current team would get into their team. What won’t be mentioned is that they had a £50M advantage over their opponents and started that season as 1/50 favourites. For us, I’m sure I’m just like most Bears in being so proud of this team, the quality of play most weeks, our credibility in Europe, and our class off the field with our management team leading us to glory.
