The forum is working brilliantly on my desktop, thanks guys for the advice and comments earlier. I think I will get a new ipad for the house, cant be doing without my Gersnet fix at home!4 points

Naismith would be an absolute no-brainer for me. Better than anything we have even at half the player we sold. Can play up front and, just as importantly, can play in the "10" role - in his first stint with us his timing of breaking beyond the strikers reminded me of a young Ian Durrant. Naismith would enhance our first team considerably - I wouldn't even hesitate - couldn't care less what he said back in 2012.4 points

Walter Smith said similar but I don't hear the rush to condem him. Back in the day there was a fluid and changing situation where economics mixed with politics and spin. Different people with different interests occupied different roles at different times in what was multi-edged ongoing story that makes War & Peace seem like a prologue. Naismith had his reasons for doing and saying what he did at that point in time. IMO he was a dammed sight more honest than McCoist, who said the right things but laughed all the way to the bank.3 points

There was a lot of uncertainty at the time. And as much as it hurt to see someone we lauded say such things, I can at least put myself in their shoes and appreciate why they had doubts or were confused. That said, to come out and do that press conference was poor judgement and I think they were badly advised. If he does come back, I think he would do well do apologise and should he do that, hopefully we might put this to bed and enjoy watching him pull on the light blue shirt again3 points

As a technical Philistine, I'm endlessly impressed that there are people out there who know enough about these things to make this change happen so seamlessly. I think you all deserve our thanks and no small amount of envy3 points

We lost that in 2012 ,we are where we are and perhaps many of our support need to start realizing neither the team ,club or Scottish football are what they were, even 10 years ago. Cutting our nose off to spite our face is something we just cannot afford at present. If Naismith is half the player he was when he left and willing to play till end of the season for nothing it is a win win for everyone. It allows him to make a ‘gesture’ to the fans and club and to prove his fitness. Then in close season our coaching staff can decide if he is worth a paid contract. I believe if Naismith is anywhere near fully fit he can improve our team he s capable of laying anywhere in the middle or upfront and brings experience having played at the highest level . He can share that experience with the McRorie, Barjonas, Hardie etc of our club ,it can only make them better assets for Rangers going forward.3 points

Absolutely agree with this and if we're not going to have to pay any of his wages, or even just a small percentage, its relatively risk free surely?3 points

Naismith at half the player he was would be our best by a country mile. At his best he would be the best in the country. Got to be worth a look.3 points

Mate. You could try using tapatalk app on the older iPad. You should be able to find tapatalk in app store. Then once in that app search for Gersnet.See if that improves it and lets you at least use the current iPad2 points

I think we have a few players that could have played as backup in our better teams of the past. Is Tav any worse than a Whittiker or Cleland/Bolland? McCrorie looks to have the potential to be a worthy Rangers player but it's early days. Nico at his best would have been good enough for sure, and if our young Morelos stays long enough and improves (as at 21 he is certainly not the finished article yet) then we may have another. The problem is that with the very best quality of player we have in our current squad, this would have been the supplements to our previous squads to add to the quality players we had for these guys to play around. Our poorer players are so far behind the required standard that our overall quality is sadly miles behind other eras.2 points

I wish the winter shutdown lasted from November to February. going to the football in the freezing cold and/or pishing rain, slipping and sliding on the streets outside, sitting beside guys who sneeze all over you all afternoon, watching football of a poor quality because the weather is making it harder for the players to play to their best. Now move those fixtures from November - February and put them in June-August, where it is warmer, drier, the pitches are better, you dont need to go with 10 layers of thermals on, (visits to Aberdeen aside!), and watch better quality football as well. It's a no-brainer. If football was starting from scratch today, I am certain our season would be March-October. Sadly, I dont think we will ever embrace this in our backward wee country.2 points

Here's the quotes from Naismith: “This is a new company called Sevco. I’ve never met Mr Green or anyone from Sevco. I don’t know who the investors are or what league they’ll be in. So how can I push forward into a new company that I don’t know anything about or any person involved in it? “I have concerns about who is in charge of the new club, definitely. You need to know what business you’re going to be part of. If you don’t, it’s inevitable there will be problems. “The loyalty I had was with Rangers. I’ve never met anyone from Sevco since it’s been formed. And I don’t think I could have moved forward on those terms. “Will I ever come back and support the new club? I haven’t thought about it. Like a lot of Rangers fans, I’m just thinking short-term rather than long-term. Feel free to forgive him. I won't.2 points

Gonzo I believe that last guy that didn’t make a mistake in life got crucified, ever since we have all made mistakes. Yes what Naisy did was regrettable but surely everyone in life is allowed at least one mistake? We are surely not so intransigent in our views,or so perfect in everything we have ever done that we cannot give someone a second chance ? What we as a club did to Scot Simon was probably even worse than what Naisy did,and we all forgave the club for its appalling treatment meted out to a man that had dedicated half his life to Rangers. Let ya be open minded and if it does happen and he pulls on tha5 sacred jersey let us all get behind him without any rancour.2 points

The only issue would be one of minimum wage, but even if we pay him £20K a year it would be worth it.2 points

Hah, either that or 'fools seldom differ'! Rousseau, don't be surprised if Pena is quite keen on a return to Mexico. Whatever his goal to game ration is he's struggled to find a regular starting place, we've struggled to understand and adapt to his 'game' and with Pedro gone his chief supporter has gone. Murty has used him, and used him well at times, but this might be a mutual thing rather than us simply looking to offload him. Pena's biggest problem is one of expectation. The fee paid for him and the stories that followed him created the impression that he was going to be a big, big player. That's not his fault of course. On balance moving him on seems like the wisest course to me.2 points
-
Pena wasn't the all-round midfielder we were expecting, but I really don't see how he was a "flop"; his goal-to-game ratio is superb, and his ability to find space in the box likewise. The narrative is quite clear. I'd rather keep Pena. However, if we're able to recoup the money and put it into a better all-rounder, then so be it.2 points

We tried with kranjcar and are still paying for it. Once the legs have gone it is a quick slide down a slippery slope. This, if he is half as good then he is still better is a lot of crap. If he is only half as good as he was then he is finished. He was good but never superman.1 point

I think it's the other way about. International tournaments occur in the summer because most clubs play their football in the winter.1 point

Testing a few other wee things tonight so don't worry if you see stuff appear and disappear again...1 point

I agree with TB. I've missed a few evening games over the past few months due to the weather. I can't handle the really cold nights, and I'm not the only one. There's quite a few around me that have missed a few games. It's crap sitting in the cold stands getting frozen. If you want to improve the football on show and increase attendances then move it to the summer.1 point

Cheers, will try that tonight. Didnt like tapatalk on the phone when I tried it a couple of years ago but it might be perfect for the ipad.1 point

Depends I guess. Naismith could waive 10k a week of his salary that Norwich are paying to allow him to play for "free" elsewhere. If he is on, say, 50k a week at Norwich and they want someone to pay them 10k a week, thereby reducing the Norwich outlay to 40k a week.... Naismith could ask them to waive the 10k a week demand from potential suitors and simply pay him 40k a week instead of 50k. Same net effect to Norwich.1 point

I would agree in general but the league has been so unpredictable this season you just never know what a good run could do. And I feel that even before new signings come in this team is capable of mounting a consistent run. Earlier in the season I would have disliked missing weeks of competitive action because the team needed to gel but all things considered this Winter break is beneficial to us.1 point

It's a social weakness, this current fashion of rushing to forgive, as if it somehow makes us better people to ignore the misdeeds of others. Naismith panicked and treated the club and its fans like so much shit on his shoe. So fuck him and his latter day conversion. Like other fans, I've been through a storm of shit and disappointment these last six years, too much to suddenly open arms to a deserter like Naismith.1 point

It would be intriguing to get Naismith free of transfer and signing-on fees, and for expenses, rather than wages. I am rarely, if ever, in favour of 'bringing them back', but in this case I might make an exception, if only for the explosion that his return, on terms so advantageous to the Club, would precipaitate at catamite fc, and among its supporters, fellow travellers, acolytes across the media, and other initiates into its spurious cult of sporting integrity ( a moveable feast, if ever I have seen one). i imagine that, even now, hand penned missives, in -naturally- geen ink, and on paper salvaged from the back of sugar bags, will be flying to FIFA, UEFA , SFA, and SPFL, all imploring a full investigation into Naismith's contract, examination of any 'side letter or letters', and declaring that only a determination that his arrangements with the Club are against the governing regulations, and the Laws, and the 'Spirit' of football, contravene the Holy Gospel, and subvert any form of justice, spiritual, natural, or temporal, will be sufficient to assuage the righteous anger of the ordinary football supporter in the street, which person, of course they represent. The more lucid among them will be scouring the highways, byways, and backwaters of the Employment Law, and the minutiae of Player Registration requirements, together with the Law, Regulations, precedents, interpretations, and footnotes, of Taxation, Personal and Corporate, to find some construction, no matter how irrelevant, to prove that 'The Ranjurs' ur 'at it', and 'at it bigtime'. So, "Bring it on!", says I, "I could do with a laugh".1 point

Mike, he's earned a whole lot more over his career than Kevin Thomson and I know for fact that KT played for free in both his 2nd and 3rd stints at Hibs - so I suspect that Naismith has plenty set aside for a "rainy day". Plus, he comes across as being a sensible, level-headed, balanced person - so I would hope he hasn't squandered his wealth on ridiculous car licence plates1 point
-
So a player who couldn't wait to run out the door to secure his earning power is suddenly all altruistic and wanting to play for nothing? Sorry, I'm not buying one word of this.1 point

Agreed and an 18 team league should be in place with 2 or 3 divisions max. Although the 18 team league can wait for now to keep Dundee Utd out of the top tier :-)1 point

32 GRAEME MURTY believes new signing Jamie Murphy can add a ‘different dimension’ to his Rangers team and that he can force his way back into the Scotland squad during his time at Ibrox. Murty knows all about the winger having followed his career closely over the years and he is looking forward to working with the former Brighton star this week in Florida after he signed an initial loan deal until the end of this season. The move will become permanent in the summer and the Gers boss is delighted to have another talented playmaker on board. Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “I think it’s great. He is one we identified really early for that left-flank slot. “He brings a wealth of experience and he’s had glowing endorsements from not only coaching staff and managers, but also players that I’ve played with, that have played with him, in terms of the character that he is, and he was another one who was desperate to come. “Hopefully he can come in and hit the ground running because if he does he’s a definite asset for us and we need to find a way to get the best out of him. “I think bringing him in brings a different dimension to the team and I’m really excited about that. “Speaking to people who know him, they speak well of his level head and his inclusion within the group. “He was a contributing factor to Brighton going up, but I think he’s a more mature guy now. “He’s still exciting and he’s still got pace, he’s still got the ability to beat a man and deliver an end product in the final third, but he’s not a boy anymore. “He’s now a man ready to shoulder a man’s burden in the team hopefully, and we’re really excited to get this more polished article and give him a stage that’s ready for him to shine on. At 28, Murty feels his new recruit is moving to Rangers at the peak of his career. He added: “I think it speaks volumes about what we are going to do. “He understands the journey that we are on currently and I think it’s exciting for him to get on almost at the start and understand the length we have to go but the vision that we have for it. “That’s my job this week, to impart that vision, to say ‘right, this is where we want to be by the end of this year’. “At the end of this season what do we want to achieve? That’s one of the key messages I’m going to try and hammer in this week. “If we do that then we can push on together and make sure the rest of this season is a successful one.”1 point
