  1. To me doing a "lap of honour" 4 games into a league campaign is simply bizarre in the extreme, they scared it's the only opportunity to do one this season?

  2. I must admit that due to being in the air I didnt see any of the game and landed to turn my phone on and was totally gutted to see the result. What disappointed me more was on further reading, how poorly we played for the first hour or so where we let our fragile opponent dictate the flow of the game, have all the chances, and generally use the game to get their confidence back. Hence the celebrations from them at the end, I think most of them thought they were going to find it tough yesterday as well. What worries me more is that after 3 league away games, we have 2 points, have conceded in every game, and have only dominated one of the 3 games while being really quite poor in the other 2. While some go on about a 12 game unbeaten run, and that we were tired after our Russian exploits, we were continually told that we had the best and toughest pre-season in years, and wouldnt be blaming fitness on any result, and yet here we are already making excuses. The nature of the performances at Fir Park and yesterday worry me more than the results. We were second best for large chunks of both games from what I read on here (not having seen either game in full) and the inability to keep clean sheets away from home while setting up defensively, is not a good omen. It is only to be realistic to understand that our manager is learning all the way along and has shown some admirable qualities to date. The working of this transfer market was simply incredible and to be heartily applauded. The ability to get through 4 really tough 2 legged European ties is also thoroughly satisfying. However the league is the bread and butter and we sit with 5 points out of 12. We simply have to win the next 5 league matches (Dundee, St Johnstone & Hearts at home and Livvy & Hamilton away) before we travel to Easter Road at the end of October. If we have 20 points by then we will probably be in second place and no more than 4 points behind the scum, which will then look a lot better after 9 games than it does after 4. November sees us entertain Motherwell & Livvy and travel to St Mirren. Surely another 9 points are the only option there. 30 from 13 games would be a reasonable return and put us on target to be realistic title contenders. What we cannot have are any more silly slip ups like at Fir Park against a side who going into that game were winless and goalless. The Europa League will get in the way (in a nice way of course!) and force us to use the squad. But that is why we sanctioned so many new faces of a better quality than the ones who left. If we can also get our injured players (Coulibaly, Dorrans, Rossiter, etc) back and available we should be able to rotate a little. SG must also use his subs wisely in this regard. Most importantly we must retain the ball better, create more chances, and score more goals. Have courage in possession, hunger to get it back when we dont. We started like that but after a few games we have tailed off already. Yesterdays terrible result and performance is the crossroads for the season, it can go one of two ways from here. Sadly, one road we have travelled on far too often, lets go the other way this time.

  3. People need to tailor their expectations. Realistically we aren't going to win the league this season, very rarely happens when a whole team overhaul takes place. We should have 9 points from 12 not 5 but we know lessons need to be learned from those goals conceded. We still have only conceded more than 1 goal once in 13 matches so we know the ground work is there. I think the Thu-Sun schedule took it's toll yesterday along with the 9 man match on Thu there. We looked leggy but thankfully we won't be having that schedule every week from now on and only once a fortnight. We have Grezda, Worral, Rossiter & Dorrans to come back in and the team will continue to get stronger and better the more the play together. I said weeks ago that this team will take 2-3 transfer windows before we really see a title winning team. I think we'll still finish second easily and we'll close come the end of the season. Still 9 points to play for against Celtic and everyone involved yesterday will benefit from playing in that match. We will get a run of home games now as well which will help build some momentum. Things are still looking good and we need to remember how we were feeling in April before Gerrard's appointment (4 Months ago might I add). Let that sink in how we were all feeling, now we have european football to look forward to until Christmas. Things are looking bright, lets not over critise 1 match and remember this is a long term project.

  4. If our fans are so easily provoked, they shouldn't be going to these games. If someone throws a coin, they should be arrested and charged. For me it's that simple. Their players can tie scarves to posts, celebrate in front of our fans, and fist pump all they want. They won and deserved the right to do that. I hope Gerrard shows our players their reaction though because there are two things it proves: this game meant so much to them; and this is what happens when you let them win (so use it as motivation and don't let it happen again). If we win, I'd be equally fine with us fans doing it back to them, although I'd like to think our players would show a little more class than they do. We are upset at losing, but we can't be upset at things like this. It's sport. It's emotional. It's not serious.

  5. I'd a friend who lived in a flat on Copland Road. She'd no interest in football but very quickly developed an intolerance for football supporters. As far as she was concerned Rangers supporters were responsible for urinating on her close door, littering her street and stairwell and preventing her from parking outside her own home on match days. She was right too. However, Rangers were there before she moved in and are still there after she moved elsewhere (she didn't move because of Rangers), it's not like the stadium appeared overnight. Anyone living locally needs to accept the stadium and the people who visit it are part of their community whether they like that or not. Rangers do a lot too in terms of paying for cleansing after matches, policing and generally trying to be good neighbours. As the fanzone isn't going to increase the number of people visiting during matches and it will house them very close to the stadium away from residents you can only conclude something else was influencing the objection.

  6. I was driving during the 1st half of yesterday's match and was delighted to discover a commentary was on Five Live. Lee McCulluch and Pat Nevin were assisting an Irish commentator who rather amusingly kept calling our defensive midfield lynchpin "Jack Ryan". I listened for 20 minutes an no one corrected him. It's no wonder we struggled in midfield yesterday, what with shadowing runs from Rogic and McGregor whilst saving America and Western civilisation from countless terrorist and domestic threats.

  7. We weren't good enough. It's that simple. You can't let a team run all over the top of you like that. I hope Gerrard has learned from yesterday.

  8. Odd to see the 'invincibles' celebrating a 1-0 victory over what they claim is a new club. They are a strange lot.

  9. Magnanimous? What is it that you want us to say exactly @barca72? As far as the incidents you speak about where violence has been used on our fans none of us disagree with you. Halliday being sent off was ridiculous I'm confident that every one of us feels the same about that too. There are a multitude of incidents that have happened that are simply moronic. Their team doing a lap of honour after a narrow victory at home against us and their team captain and others goading the tiny (800) Rangers support in a crowd of 58,000 is completely moronic, lacks integrity, sportsmanship, dignity or any class and probably should be examined by the CO for bringing the game into disrepute. But I'm not offended by it because they are fucking morons who know no better as far as I'm concerned.

  11. People also ask Do I need a TV Licence if I don t watch BBC? You don't need a TV Licence to own or possess a television set. However, if you use it to watch or record programmes as they are being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, or to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer, then you need a TV Licence in order to do so.

  14. That last part was more of a general observation.....many folk are quick to criticise how things are run, but are reluctant to offer a practical solution themselves. Ont his particular subject that actually aren't enough people questioning the Community council - after all , it was them who raised the initial objection and apparently refused to with draw it. All to easy for many on here to simply go down the "SNP bad" route...

  18. Rangers fans have to be kept in for security, it will be the same for yahoos at Ibrox due to the reduced allocations. I don't understand us getting hot and bothered about folk like Leigh plucked chicken Griffiths and Scott lego muncher Brown acting like muppets. Because that's exactly what they are. Muppets.

  20. A few brief comments on the defeat; It was an away game. At this stage in our development a point is the aim there and a win would be a bonus. The home games are the really huge ones because we should be winning them. Playing 3 days after playing on the wrong side of Russia (with 9/10 men) was always going to be challenge. History shows us that even the best teams regularly drop points after away games in Europe (road to seville and road to manchester both prime examples). The boys were in no state to press the game for crying out loud they're not robots. Because of this the management had hardly any time to analyse the oppoisition and work on tactics Gerrard spent about £6.5m this summer. £6m was on defence. He did what he had to do but that will obviously impact on how we play in big games They had a lot of chances but that doesn't change the fact they needed a breakaway to score, and that was with our holding midfielder on the ground at the other end We have someone in the ranks already who would have improved us yesterday, Coulibaly. He'll be back and will help significantly with winning the ball back They have a well gelled team. 7-8 of their starting lineup have been there for 3+ years. Tavernier is our longest serving player and 1 of only 3 starting player who were here last season. That is obviously going to play a part in big derbies. All of that is not to say that ball retention in particular isn't an issue but we shouldn't be drawing big conclusions from that game. The management will have more time on the training field than they've had in past two months for the next two weeks and will be using it well.

  21. Agree with most of that. You beat Celtic by pressing them and it’s been proved by a few home and foreign teams who are not world beaters. Had we done that yesterday we could have been in the end of a thrashing as Thu would have taken its toll and I’m sure damage limitation was on the minds of our tacticians. Given all the circumstances of injury, Europe, the fixture schedule and still lacking a bit of quality which will be remedied over time I am very confident that yesterday is the widest the gap we will see and it will narrow quite quickly. It was was a blessing that game was at Porkheid because had we lost at Ibrox with the handicaps of the fixture list etc it would have been far more difficult to retrieve the 3 points - which I suspect we can do in December at our place.

  22. There I'm going to refer to my fathers lifetime football mantra but there is only one way to address this and every other thread on here that raises what we feel is an injustice against Rangers. Whether it's the BBC, politicians, Broonie and his scrote like behaviour, their fans, pundits etc. etc. just make sure you win on the pitch, do your talking with your football and bring home the trophies.

  23. My thoughts on the game: We played right into Ceptic hands...and played exactly how every other team plays. They like to build from the back - casually passing between their back 4 & holding Mids. They rarely get ANY pressure from the opposition while doing this. Morelos would occasionally have a wee 1/2 hearted run at them, but nothing sustained or in any numbers. This allows them to firstly increase their possession stats considerably & also allows them to survey the play ahead of them. Gives the more forward players time to move about & create space. Then all it takes is 2-3 passes and their swarming the penalty box. As a result this makes Broonaldo look a helluva lot better than he actually is. Most team that have been them have identified this and press their defenders relentlessly . We simply did not press them enough for large parts of the game. Instead we invited them to attack & tried to soak up the pressure - which I think we did VERY well. I find that I'm no longer getting really nervous whenever a ball is played into our box. Soaking up that amount of pressure for 90mins is an exceedingly big ask for ANY team. I felt that our 2nd biggest flaw was too many long balls from McGregor. We were not winning the either the 1st or 2nd balls from the keepers long punts. This allowed them to reset & attack again - giving us no rest. We had very little opportunity to actually get a breather & retain possession for any length of time. I would like to have seen more pressure put on Broonaldo....booked after 10mins, we should have been right in his face and niggling him at EVERY opportunity. Ultimately we needed to push the game further up the pitch & let their midfield know that they are in a game....just didn't happen though. Overall, disappointed with the result but generally content with the play - we looked solid enough & with a few wee tweaks, could change things significantly.

  24. What is it you all want? Do you want the police to stop celebrations in case "we" can't control ourselves? Because it "offends" us? You think celebration should be banned because it's provocative? Are you really so thin skinned? I wasn't at Parkhead and in my opinion it would have been better if every other Rangers supporter had stayed away too but if you have to go then don't witter on about seeing something you didn't like. If like me you watched it on TV then the off button solves all problems. Offended? Get a grip. There are things in the real world worthy of being offended by but Celtic players running round their own pathetic midden isn't one of them.

  25. Terrible from the Police to hold Rangers supporters in and then allow this to go on. If they are keeping Rangers supporters in then they have to clear the Celtic end. What the hell is the use of keeping Rangers supporters in and allowing things to go on that will keep the Celtic supporters there. I really worry about decision makers at police Scotland.

  28. The only way we compete with them and beat them is if we get in their faces, play a high press and play very well. Yesterday we played European Away tactics (happy with a 0-0). It allowed them to dictate the play and they are a better team than any we've came up against in the 4 summer qualifiers. We did so, probably because of a lack of the necessary collective energy to be able to employ an effective high press. Several things..... 1. They focused and raised the quality of their game (especially retention of possession) from the inconsistent Colin Nish they had previously been playing. This will nearly always happen for OF matches and we have to be ready for it. The less 'noise' we make prior to these games the better. 2. Villareal game on the 20th will be a long night unless we can vastly improve on retention of possession. 3. Despite all the signings, we are currently light on options. All that said, we need to forget about them and concentrate on improving ourselves. We have an excellent management team in place and the base of a good squad. This season will see teething problems and humps in the road but we are going in the right direction.

  29. I realise my over-whelming sense of disappointment about yesterday is largely down to my feelings of optimism about our team as August progressed. Not since our first match against them since promotion back up to the SPFL have I gone into a game against them actually believing we could win it. It's the hope that kills you and all that... It's not the result that's so disappointing, rather it was the performance. It feels like an opportunity lost, clearly Celtic were having issues behind the scenes whilst we were on something of a roll. In my opinion we got our tactics wrong, particularly in the first half. However, most of our players will get a break now and that can only be a good thing. It was a difficult start to the season, with a brand new side and brand new manager. Dropping 7 points from a possible 9 away from home is poor by anyone's standards, but, there's some mitigation with our European matches and our over-achievement in them. How we bounce back from this first set-back will be revealing. That's how we'll know what kind of team we now have. Full league points for the rest of September please.

  31. 24k for European games. Which means we'll get circa 1200. I expect a ballot for Travel Club members which means if you haven't some points in the bag you're unlikely to get a ticket from Rangers (there's over 4k Travel Club members). There will be a certain amount of home end tickets kicking about (there always are) but they usually come at a hefty premium (you can pick up on viagogo just now for 199 euros). Going to be a lot of Bears watching it in Viennese bars.

  32. I agree 100%. I hope we can come to an arrangement to reverse this. It lacks the right atmosphere for an old firm game, but more importantly we had no way of making ourselves heard - especially against them our players could really have been lifted with a stronger support.

  33. Such as? I'm asking because it's too easy to say that political parties are anti Rangers. I believe some politicians are, just as some lawyers are, just as some police officers are, just as some bankers are. That's life. But I don't see any political party being anti Rangers. Quite frankly, I don't think that most of them are bothered enough about football to even care. It frustrates me when I see sweeping statements made about politics and Rangers. Some Rangers fans vote SNP. Some vote for independence. Some vote for BrExit. Some vote for the Green Party. How do I know this? .... because our support is broad and is made up of people with all sorts of backgrounds, priorities and beliefs. I know that's difficult for some people to accept, but that's a fact. As soon as we put conditions on who is a real supporter (I.e. you can't support Rangers if you vote SNP), we become divided. There's no need for it, especially not now. Vote for who you want, but don't tell people who they should and shouldn't be voting for.

It's not just a decision that can be reversed in 4 or 5 years. No, I'm not a member of my local community council because a) don't have the time b) don't care enough about the issues. c) the council will just decide to do what they want anyway.

  37. A boyhood fan. Why are we getting him at age 38, rather than at 16/17/18, or younger? it's always been the same, we consistently miss out on players who would walk to Ibrox. 38. It would probably do a number of folk the world of good to realise that there are 2 sides.... In this case, it took 12 pages of comment, before anyone actually posted what was said.....how many folk on this thread had READ Aitken's letter??? She has made it clear that the Council actually have no objections to the proposal. Where they do have objection is that Club employees had made their belief widely known on social media, that the refusal was down to religion/political bias. That belief has been blindly evident on here as well, with opinions being put forward without full knowledge of the process, procedures or facts. Just another case of "SNP hate us". Yet the basic fact is that the objection came from the local Ibrox community council & the club were unable to convince them to withdraw their objection.

  41. I know why it was done, I just think it's a mistake to diminish the only thing that this league has to offer the wider football world, and reducing the opposing support to virtually nothing, diminishes it. I wouldn't be surprised if in the not too distant future Sky will be informing the clubs the same. That's my opinion, I'm entitled to it as are you to yours, so don't be giving it the 'Oh dear' shite.

Barra born and bred, Alex was the football correspondent for the West Highland Free Press and commentated in Gaelic for BBC Alba. The owner of the WHFP in those days was Brian Wilson MP(Junior Cabinet Minister), the same Wilson that sits on ra Sellik Board to this day. Alex presented a most unflattering report that led to Rangers being fined. We were told at the time that Rangers supporters did not need to know the identity of our accuser. lots of the usual suspects testified to his good character. If FARE do decide to report on Sellik, Alex can simply utilise his season ticket.
