  1. I'm not sure why the Club 1872 rep to the RIFC board has to be a C1872 board member? Even if he or she is a board member, why do they have to resign their position as the rep if they cease to be a board member? It may well be a board member but the two aren't mutually exclusive.

  2. I agree BD, Our shares are diluting , so we have to buy more just to keep it at the same level. Not only that we bought half of Ashley's share for £1mil, think about that for a second £1mil of supporters money to remove a malevolent force from our club and the reward is, buy more shares or you might not get board representation. Feck me why do i feel like the support is getting the shit end of the stick again?

  3. 2 points: 1. Just because a place on the board could be awarded now, it doesn't mean that it can't be reassessed in the future. 2. Joe Bloggs who owns a % similar to C1872 can "demand" a place, but doesn't have to (and probably shouldn't) get one. it's not the same as an organisation representing the support (the biggest customer) of the club. I think I partly agree with your last point. The level of shareholding shouldn't be the only rationale for deciding who should or shouldn't be on the board. The support should have a rep, and C1872 is the obvious body for that given their level of shareholding and membership (whatever that is). We do however need to get some (more?) strong non-exec directors on as well.

  4. So what if the shareholding falls from, say 12% to 10% (I don't know what the current %s are)? C1872 are a major shareholder and the club are wanting them to invest heavily in the share issue and it's treating the support with disrespect to imply that we will only allow you a place on the board if you have a specific %. As well as a major shareholder, the support are the club's biggest income source as well.

  5. It was Van Hooijdonk. He was offered £7k a week and told the press ‘It may be good enough for the homeless but not for an international striker’. Classy!

  6. I'm apathetic towards the National team, but I would never go that far. I'm a little more receptive with McLeish and the newer generation being given a chance, hopefully. And, Rangers players in the squad helps too.

  7. We are not at the races when it comes to PR/media, the scum have everything wrapped up in that regard, I would like to question why? why is our club so poor and miles behind the scum with the media? we get trampled on daily as a club from the Scottish gutter press and there is no resistance to it!.

  8. If you ever want to really annoy an Aberdeen fan tell them that when Aberdeen FC play five-a-sides at training and the players split themselves into two teams and the teams they pick are Rangers fans v Celtic fans. That's true too.

  10. Club 1872 are running with the safe standing thing for the wrong reason they're doing it because they think it's popular not because it's the right thing to do. The right thing to do is to ensure that the disabled facilities are brought up to date and the attitude of the Club towards its disabled fans is brought out of the Victorian era and into the 21st century. The lack of a safe standing section will have no effect on our various licences needed to operate the stadium and play in European competitions but one day our inadequate disabled facilities will. Club 1872 like the Club itself pay lip service to the issues facing disabled fans and the consequences of having such a stance.

  14. Im guessing, as it was after my time on the board, but I suspect Club 1872's move for a place on the board synergises with their previous statements about Q & A sessions being an ineffective tool as a means of communication and vigilance. There being no other mechanisms available I suspect a board place was the only viable option. The original vision of the organisation was the safeguarding of the club - you cant do that if you are disenfranchised or cut off from the processes and decision making which affects that. I think there is a considerable element of risk in all of this if things dont work out to plan.

  17. This kinda makes me laugh...He was excellent @ Motherwell, scored a load of goals & decent few against us, and we were allegedly interested in him as a result. He moves to a different team & completely bombs, and now he's not good enough for Us. This is very similar to the Steve Clarke chat - poor record elsewhere, but having a great 1/2 season @ Killie (so far). All of a sudden he's the man to take Rangers forward...

  20. I think that's why the past few years have been so difficult in particular for the bears that remember 1986 and the following NIAR years. We were signing some of the best players in the world (Butcher, Woods, Steven, Wilkins, Klos, Laudrup, Gazza, Thern, etc) and now we have players that can't get games for teams we have hardly heard of. I've tried to reset my expectations but find that very hard to do, if not impossible. All I'm asking for is that we uncover one gem of a player that can get us on the edge of our seats, or one strong defender who can lead the team with the character of a Gough/Butcher. Too much to ask for?

  21. Club 1872 directors recently held a very positive meeting with Rangers Chairman, Dave King to discuss the possibility of Club 1872 taking up a position on the RIFC board. This was a preliminary discussion and various practical considerations were raised and examined. The Club 1872 board wishes to draw members’ attention to two main points arising from the meeting: 1) The current one year term for Club 1872 board members is an issue that has been raised by a number of members over the past year. It is also something that was discussed in the meeting with the Chairman in connection with an RIFC board place. The current one year term creates challenges in progressing long term plans, and the annual election process causes a period of upheaval each year which disrupts crucial work in taking the organisation forward. It also impacts the aim of securing a place on the RIFC board as this position would not be available if it potentially had to be changed annually. The Club 1872 board will shortly put a proposal to members to extend the term for Club 1872 board members and introduce staggered elections. The board believes this proposed change would help maintain stability and ensure the organisation continues to function properly through the election process. It would also solve one of the practical difficulties of securing an RIFC board place. 2) Despite being the second largest shareholder currently, members will be aware that a number of individuals have large loans in place with RIFC. These loans will shortly be converted to equity through share issues. This will mean that in order to maintain our position, Club 1872 will need to invest significant funds into Rangers over a number of share issues - most likely running into millions of pounds. Although we are very pleased with the reaction to our share issue campaign, at the current level of membership and contributions we are unlikely to be able to maintain that shareholding in the medium term. If Club 1872 is to maintain its position we need thousands more Rangers supporters to join the organisation and invest in Rangers. If our shareholding position is not maintained then it becomes less likely that we will secure a place on the RIFC board. The organisation has to show that it can invest in the club on the same basis as the other major shareholders. Club 1872 does not have an automatic right to an RIFC board place. However, following positive discussions we believe that we can secure one on behalf of our members if the organisation continues to grow and develop. We have added over 400 new members in 8 weeks. We have also raised over half a million pounds for the upcoming share issue. However, given the size of our support and the millions of pounds of investment being provided by other investors, the organisation needs to continue to develop if we are to meet our objectives. We would ask for every one of our members to help us in this regard by recruiting friends and family. The opportunity in front of us has never existed for Rangers supporters. We have an RIFC board that is willing to work with us and the opportunity for supporters to become one of the major investors and voices in our club. That opportunity may not come again as the club continues to rebuild and gain strength. We would encourage all Rangers supporters to join us and ensure that collectively we are in a position to take advantage of this and ensure the support retains a big enough shareholding to protect the club for generations to come. We will update our members on our discussions with RIFC as they continue and will shortly put a poll out to members on the subject of the Club 1872 board term. Thank you as always for your ongoing support. Club 1872

  22. " RANGERS can today confirm Niko Kranjcar’s contract has been terminated by mutual agreement. Kranjcar joined Rangers in the summer of 2016 from New York Cosmos, and has made 26 appearances while scoring three goals in the process. The former Croatia, Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder leaves Ibrox with the best wishes of everyone associated with the club, and also their gratitude for his services. Niko said: “Myself and Rangers Football Club have come to a mutual agreement to terminate our common contract. “It’s been an honour to have been part of such a big club and to have played for such great fans, it will always remain an honour for me. “I wish the club success in its future while I now consider the options I have on the table.” https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/niko-kranjcar/

  24. The board stand for election and make their case. Members then have an option to vote for their preferred representative. Much like a General Election, you're then stuck with that choice until another vote occurs, regardless of whether you're happy or not.

  31. I was paraphrasing from memory but I've just found the article and he did describe him as "old fashioned" and "old school". If you're as consistently "lucky" as they've been you have a right to be desribed as something better He's really achieved the impossible there and if it's not down to players it's down to tactics. True. I think it's a tough job because you need to be able to put out very different teams with very different tactics depending on who you're playing. You could be playing a France or an England or it could be Belarus or Cyprus. I trust McLeish to make us hard to beat but he definitely has a lot to prove in terms offensive tactics against the teams we should be beating. Incidentally, Iceland's mastermind Lars Lagerback recently became Norway's new manager and lost his first game 2-0 to his rival mastermind..............................Michael O'Neill.

  34. That was also my first thought on the matter. There's no reason to extend the term of Club1872 board members, except to keep current board members in position for longer ... it should have absolutely no bearing on the completely separate issue of appointing a Rangers board member. Also, is the Club1872 membership being prepared for a change in priorities .... "This will mean that in order to maintain our position, Club 1872 will need to invest significant funds into Rangers over a number of share issues - most likely running into millions of pounds. Although we are very pleased with the reaction to our share issue campaign, at the current level of membership and contributions we are unlikely to be able to maintain that shareholding in the medium term." It seems to me this could be a fork in the road for Club1872. Dont suppose they managed to discuss Rangers fans being injured by smoke bombs or the issue of treating Celtic fans in the same way as fans of any other club?

  35. " Club 1872 does not have an automatic right to an RIFC board place. " While the rules may say that, given the amounts of money the fans are investing in the club, it should be a given. In fact, imo it should be insisted upon. Even if our shareholding is diluted by a new issue we should still be granted that access.

  36. I can kinda see DK's point.... C1872 are pushing for a place on the board, due to their current shareholding. However if that shareholding is reduced, then their claim for a Board position is subsequently reduced.

  37. When Stein came to Parkhead his first job was to get Rangers of the back pages that way it was his club that would get precedence first and foremost , this is what we must do right now I get fed up only reading negatives about our club time we got someone who is shit hot at PR .

  41. Always interested to hear opinions on the media. How to we get a foothold back in the Scottish media? Why are we (club) so bad at setting narratives etc. Likewise as others have said Club1872. With hindsight, was probably mistake with merger. How best to move forward and repair any damage? Would be good to hear about options on area around Ibrox, what is possible and what would any barriers be?

  43. You are correct. East End Park, we defeated the Pars 1-6 and Parlane notched five. DJ scored our other goal that Autumnal Saturday. Interestingly, the Dunfermline scorer that day was, Ken Mackie. Two seasons previously, we had bid £100,000 for him. The Pars accepted the bid, but Mackie turned down the move.
